A happily married couple who share three children have revealed how they found out they were related after taking a family tree DNA test.

Celina and Joseph Quiñones, from Colorado, had been together for 17 years and married for more than ten when Celina decided to dig into her family tree.

The mother of three didn’t get too deep into her lineage when she discovered a big surprise: Joseph was also her cousin.

She wrote: ‘I married my husband in 2006. Without thinking about anything, we had three children. Come to find out we were relatives and cousins.

Celina Quiñones, from Colorado, decided to take a DNA test to find out more about her own family heritage, but was shocked by the results after she revealed she was related by blood to her husband of 17 years, Joseph.

Celina, who has written a book about her experiences, joked that the news was “a good way to break the ice” but urged other couples to review their own heritage.

The clip quickly went viral and now has four million views, with many people posting negative comments about their continued togetherness, saying they should break up.

She described the moment she first found out her husband was also her cousin as “devastating” but says the couple’s love is stronger than ever and she ignored negative comments suggesting the couple’s divorce.

She wrote: ‘These were three children that I found out we were related to. I had my DNA tested, I think, in 2016 and yeah, it was devastating because I was like, “baby, we’re related, are we supposed to be together? This is weird.” It really scared me.

A second clip clarifies that Celina and Joseph had no idea they were related when they first got together, dating for four months before getting engaged.
