The 57-year-old Republican politician from California, United States, was photographed yesterday with Donald Trump after the former president supported him to become the next House Speaker.

The House of Representatives was in the midst of choosing a new leader after Republicans seized control of the lower house in the November midterm elections.

But instead of focusing on politics, tweeters trashed McCarthy’s suit and shoe choice.

Legal affairs journalist Catherine Baksi attended the event and tweeted about the lawyer’s advice she was passing on to “badly dressed trainees”.
