A co-worker reported me to HR over my lewd joke about my husband being away from home on a business trip… I thought it was just banter, he did NOT

A female employee was stunned when an HR meeting appeared on her calendar after she jokingly told a colleague that she knows how to ‘please’ herself.

One Reddit user, Solid_Blueberry, said she was casually talking to an old colleague and explained that her husband had been on a business trip for two weeks.

The male colleague, John, said perhaps she was crossing a line and said she had to be “a little cooped up” with her husband away for so long.

Stunned, she jokingly said, “I know exactly how to pleasure myself when my husband is away,” but to her surprise, she was met with an awkward silence and a scheduled HR meeting.

Explaining the story, in the sub-reddit Calling Am I The A******, she said: ‘I’ve been with this company for about two years now and one of my colleagues (John) and I have become quite good friends and get along really well.’

She explained that the two are happily married and are just friends, but catch up on their lives during work hours.

She continued, “John and I were chatting in the office this morning and I told him that I was alone at my house for the past week and was quite bored without my husband.

‘He asked me what I do to pass the time and that I must be a bit pent up now that my husband has been away for so long. I was surprised he said that, but I’m so comfortable with him that it didn’t bother me and I chalked it up to playful banter.

‘I jokingly told him that I know exactly how to pleasure myself when my husband is away. He became very awkward and uncomfortable and we have been distant ever since.”

The employee later checked her inbox to find an HR meeting on her calendar, and after not hearing from John, a manager told her that her behavior was “ridiculous” and that she should not talk to him.

The popular post has generated thousands of comments from irate Reddit users, all agreeing that John had crossed a line.

One user, shocked by John’s initial comment, wrote: ‘And this man has the nerve to complain about YOU??? Wow.’

Another, agreeing with the original poster, said: ‘I’m also alone in the house for a week. Last night I “did myself a favor” by making chocolate chip cookies for dinner, because I’m an adult and I can do whatever the hell I want. Especially now that my 13 year old is gone, lol.”

However, one person commented: ‘I feel like both of you were inappropriate’, prompting hundreds to claim ‘he started it’.

After much demand, the employee posted an update after the HR meeting. She claimed that John left his original comment out of the meeting and they blamed this on a misunderstanding.

She added: ‘They moved John to another team temporarily and my manager apologized to me for being harsh.’
