A powerful tornado touched down in Palm Beach Saturday night, leaving about 3,300 without power, tossing a car across a roadway and causing several cars to pile up in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

The twister touched down in North Palm Beach around 5 p.m.

Strong winds proved difficult for drivers, causing them to stop on the highway as the tornado rolled through.

The car can be seen rolling lengthwise twice before coming to rest. Debris blanketed the street and was whipped in the wind, while passengers filming the event were shocked.

The tornado also struck an apartment complex in Palm Beach Gardens, pushing a four-car pileup in the parking lot and several other cars into each other. Several vehicles were skewed in their space after the storm passed through.

The building sustained minimal damage, but was enough to frighten residents Steve King of WPBF.

Shawn MacNamara, of Palm Beach Gardens, said he dove into his car as the tornado rolled through, claiming it was “the scariest thing ever.”

Roads were blocked by fallen palm trees and police sat at intersections to help direct traffic where the lights went out.

South Florida is expected to endure severe weather, with wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

Despite the torrential rains rolling through, South Florida is expected to be in the 80s.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for Orange and Seminole counties. Additionally, a tornado warning was issued for the Tampa Bay area after the tornado rolled through Palm Beach.

As the storm continues to move through Florida, potential tornadoes, hail and high winds are expected.

Tampa Bay is at a level two for severe storms WTSPand damaging winds and large hail are the main concerns.

Coastal towns are expected to bear the brunt of the storm, but it will weaken as it moves further south.

Palm Beach can expect heavy rain until around noon tomorrow.
