A-list actor is unrecognisable as he is aged by decades with prosthetics in behind-the-scenes snaps from hit drama – but can YOU guess who it is?

An A-list actor looked completely unrecognizable in behind-the-scenes photos from the shoot shared to Instagram on Thursday.

The hit series has just been renewed for a second season after three million people watched it in its first week.

The show follows the British star, 42, as he takes on the lead role and must use a variety of disguises and aliases.

In a photo from the make-up chair, the actor was seen looking very different from his usual appearance after spending hours having facial prosthetics made.

The Hollywood star’s signature strawberry blonde hair was replaced with a bald cowl, as the special effects team worked hard to age him by decades by adding wrinkles.

But can you guess who it is?

That’s right! It’s Eddie Redmayne.

Sky TV shared behind-the-scenes footage from the filming of The Day Of The Jackal.

The partially true story, which is based on the 1971 book of the same name by Frederick Forsyth, stars Eddie Redmayne as the assassin who is targeted by an intelligence officer, played by Lashana Lynch.

In other photos, Eddie was seen on set with Money Heist’s Ursula Corbero, 35, who plays Nuria, the Jackal’s Spanish wife who knows him as ‘Charles Calthrop’.

Lashana, 37, who plays Bianca Pullman, an MI6 agent and a firearms expert, also posed for some photos, including one with Eddie, who had grown into an old man with the help of a white wig, glasses and a tweed coat.

Meanwhile, across the United States, the series is number one on Peacock’s Top 10 TV Shows.

While, according to preliminary data from Nielsen, The Day Of The Jackal was a Top 5 streaming original in its opening weekend in the US.

Industry insiders say the budget for the series has been set at a whopping £100 million, with Oscar winner Eddie bagging a total of £10 million for his role as the titular character, according to The Mirror.

A source said: ‘Many TV companies and broadcasters are struggling with tight budgets, but not with high-end drama for a global audience involving the streamers.

Most fans won’t know the partially true story behind the nail-biting reboot, based on Frederick’s 1971 book of the same name.

In the original novel, the dissident parliamentary group planned to assassinate the then President of France, Charles de Gaulle, which is also a real-life plot that unfolded.

The group’s motive was to prevent Algeria from gaining independence from French rule, something the president scheduled a referendum on in 1961.

In the book, their first attempts to kill him were based on real life, but everything that follows is fictional.
