Jason Kelce blasts Ohio State representative for introducing bill to penalize flag-planting
NFL legend Jason Kelce has condemned the Ohio state representative who introduced the bill to make planting flags at center field a misdemeanor in the Buckeye State, a week after he was fired up online for the claim.
Republican Josh Williams introduced the bill less than two weeks after Ohio State’s embarrassing home loss to archrival Michigan.
After the loss, Wolverines players took out a huge blue and gold flag and planted it in the middle of the Buckeye’s O, leading to a huge brawl in Columbus that took several minutes to break up.
Kelce joined younger brother Travis Kelce to speak about the issue affecting his home state on this week’s episode of “New Heights.”
Neither Kelce brother attended Ohio State, opting to join the Cincinnati Bearcats.
“We have officially signed Ohio’s anti-flag planting law into effect. Ohio State Representative Josh Williams introduced the bill on Tuesday in an attempt to curb flag planting… or also an attempt to be petty!,” Jason said. “I don’t like it, I’m not going to lie. This is soft!’

The flag planting incident led to a huge brawl between the Buckeyes and Wolverines
“When I think about Ohio State Buckeyes, all I think about is ‘toughness,’ man,” Travis added. “I just don’t think this is a tough-guy type move. You want to have sportsmanship, you want to have all that… but….”
“It is up to the NCAA to determine this, and not a representative of the State of Ohio,” Jason continued. “Get the fuck out of here, Josh. It’s all just a sham, it’s petty, and I don’t like it. I don’t think it’s cool, I think it’s stupid. The best thing about rivalries is that such stupid things happen. I’m not in favor of it.’
The bill only affects the state of Ohio and not similar flag-planting incidents that occurred last month in Florida and North Carolina.
Many fans have seen Williams’ move as a sour one, after Ohio State lost its chance at a Big Ten Championship and nearly lost out on the road to the first round of the College Football Playoff because of the loss.
Michigan only plays in Columbus every other year, with some calling for a Tennessee win in this weekend’s CFP first-round game in Columbus, where the Volunteers plant an orange flag at midfield before the law could become official .
Regardless, the Kelce brothers’ position on this issue is clear.
