Watch darts punter’s hilarious reaction after spotting himself on TV – leaving fans convinced he’s pulling ‘a sickie’

The PDC World Championship is one of the most iconic spectacles on the British sporting calendar, with punters flocking – and often in costume – to Alexandra Palace to enjoy the general merriment.

It’s traditionally an all-day celebration, with fans regularly hydrating themselves and creating a friendly raucous atmosphere at the iconic Ally Pally arena in North London.

The fact that the competition takes place around Christmas and New Year only adds to the atmosphere, with fans – both hardcore and casual – rising to their feet, joining in on chants and roaring home every arrow.

However, one punter appears to have gone viral for his hilarious reaction when he was caught on Sky Sports cameras during Tuesday’s match.

A viewer from home uploaded a video from a fan at Ally Pally, leaving social media users in stitches, with the caption: ‘Someone pulled a sickie at work’.

The clip shows a fan at the venue enjoying themselves and cheering along with the rest of the crowd as the TV cameras sweep over the venue.

He then sees himself on screen, and there’s a brilliant moment of realization where you can see the penny drop and the previous joy fade.

The huge grin slowly turns into a grimace, and he turns his face away from the cameras and seems to be trying to look like he’s not enjoying himself.

The gambler looks outside the frame of the lens, perhaps in an attempt to stand out, before quickly looking back at the lens to check if it is still in view – which of course it is.

The comments were filled with fans posting laughing emojis, as well as a few “snakes.”

In Tuesday’s action, Queen of the Palace Fallon Sherrock was eliminated by Ryan Meikle, setting up a showdown with teen sensation Luke Littler.

Littler – named Young Sports Personality of the Year by the BBC on Tuesday – wants to go one step further than last year, when he was defeated by Luke Humphries in the final.

Two-time champion Peter Wright also reached the third round with a 3-1 victory over Wesley Plaisier.

On Wednesday, Nathan ‘the Asp’ Aspinall will play in a second round with Leonard Gates in the evening.
