Lily Allen reveals her shock after learning she’d been referred to a CHILD psychologist as an adult – amid fears her marriage is on the rocks
Lily Allen has described the hilarious moment she discovered she had been referred to a child psychiatrist as an adult.
The singer recently raised concerns about the future of her marriage to husband David Harbor after admitting she’s “not in a great place mentally.”
In a new clip of her Miss Me? podcast, Lily shared the surprising admission that when she started seeing a new therapist when she moved to New York, she wasn’t aware that they specialized in child psychology.
Lily further revealed that she first heard of the mix-up when she was referred to another psychiatrist, and when she visited their office, the child-friendly layout led to the truth being revealed.
She told co-host Miquita Oliver: “So when I moved to New York, Henrietta, my godmother, was a very well-connected person and knew a lot of people in New York, and I said, ‘I’m moving to New York, can you you do that? Put out the feelers and see if there is anyone who could be my therapist?”
“And she said ‘of course ‘yes’, so she emailed some friends of hers… she said ‘my goddaughter is moving to New York, can you recommend anyone?’ and that’s how I got in touch with this woman, and she sent me an email.
Lily Allen has described the hilarious moment she discovered she had been referred to a child psychiatrist as an adult after raising concerns over new revelations about her family life
The singer recently sparked fears about the future of her marriage to husband David Harbor after admitting she is “not in a great place mentally.”
“I started seeing her and I really liked her, and about a year and a half later she referred me to someone from her office who was a psychiatrist.
“And I got to the office, and it was all like little kid chairs and abacuses and books for kids. And I thought, ‘This is weird.’
‘When I went to the psychiatrist, he said: ‘Obviously we don’t normally deal with adults, but since you are Anne’s client…’
‘I then went back to Anne and thought: ‘Are you a child psychiatrist?’ She said, “Yes, I told you that in the email.”
“So basically Henrietta’s friend assumed that when she said ‘goddaughter’ that goddaughter meant ‘child’, so she recommended a child psychologist, and so I still see a child psychologist.”
But Lily admitted that seeing a child psychiatrist has still proven helpful.
When asked if it has been helpful, she added: “Yes, I think so actually, because it helps with my children.”
Lily shared them earlier has entered therapy to process things after moving to New York with her children Ethel Mary, 13, and Marnie Rose, 11, and husband David.
Lily said she started seeing a new therapist when she moved to New York but was unaware that he specialized in child psychology.
Last year, questions arose about their relationship when Lily unfollowed the Stranger Things actor, 49, on social media.
Now she’s starting to hint that there are problems in her family life and even says she’s “bored of men.”
She recently admitted in the Miss Me? podcast that she presents together with her best friend, presenter Miquita Oliver: ‘I’m having a bit of a hard time at the moment, but I’m trying to persevere.’
In a previous episode she talked about how her two daughters ended up in the line of fire.
‘I exploded and shouted at the kids. I was like, ‘I can’t handle this right now; I’m going through so much, I need you two to behave.'”
She then explained to them, “We’re all going through hard things right now, so I apologize, and I’m sorry.”
In another segment, she described Aaron Batterham, her mother Alison’s boyfriend, as a “pillar” and “the most important male person in my life who is amazing and supportive” – without mentioning David.
For some, a possible clue to the source of her turmoil came when Lily announced, “I’m so bored of men.”
Lily was also recently photographed without her wedding ring. Video clips from her podcast show Lily’s left hand minus the large diamond David gave her four years ago.
She was also without one when she attended an addiction awareness event in London earlier this month.
It comes after Lily revealed she is ‘not in a great place mentally’ and has stopped eating.
In her podcast Miss Me? Lily made a candid confession about her mental health.
The Smile hitmaker opened up about how this has affected her eating, with the star admitting she hasn’t eaten and has never felt hungry.
“I’ve been going through a tough time these past few months and my eating has become a problem,” Lily said.
“My therapist and I are talking about it and she says, ‘How long has this been going on?’ And I said, “Well, about three years actually.” And she says, “Okay, why didn’t you say it before?”
“And it’s not because I’m lying about it. It’s just because it doesn’t seem to be at the top of the list of important things I need to talk about, but clearly it is.’
Lily previously revealed she went to therapy to cope after moving to New York with her children Ethel Mary, 13, and Marnie Rose, 11, and husband David.
Lily added: ‘I’m not really good at talking about the bigger picture. That’s also something with my ADHD that I don’t connect.
‘And besides, my body and my brain are two very different things to me. I know a lot of people feel like these two things are very connected, but for me it’s very different. I spend a lot of time in my head, and not much time thinking about my body.
‘I’m not doing well mentally at the moment and I’m not eating. I’m not hungry. I’m obviously hungry, but my body and brain are so separated that my body… the messages of hunger don’t go through my body to my brain.
‘I don’t avoid food, I just don’t think about it because I’m so stuck in my head. My body is a few steps behind me.”
