Clyde Edwards-Helaire announces he’s been released by the Chiefs in shock social media post
The Kansas City Chiefs have released running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire in a move the player announced Monday afternoon.
Edwards-Helaire announced the decision before the team could make an official statement revealing the roster move.
“I love you KC! A family I never knew I needed, you made a Baton Rouge kid’s dreams come true!” Edwards-Helaire posted on his X account.
“To Chiefs Kingdom, it’s all love and the support I’ve had through tough times will forever be unparalleled from you guys! With love!’
Edwards-Helaire had yet to make a single appearance for the defending Super Bowl champions this season after being placed on Reserve/Non-Football Illness (or NFI) before Week 1.
He was activated on October 15, but failed to break into the team’s depth chart at all.
Edwards-Helaire was the last pick in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft after being part of arguably the greatest college football team of all time: the 2019 LSU Tigers.
With LSU – including Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase – he won the 2019 National Championship Game over Clemson.
