Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page reveals she was left burned after suffering nasty injury on set while filming show’s Christmas finale
Gavin & Stacey star Joanna Page has revealed she suffered a nasty injury on the last day of filming the show’s Christmas finale.
The very last episode of the much-loved BBC sitcom will air in a 90-minute special on Christmas Day this year, after fans of the show begged for an end to the story.
Joanna, 47, who has played Stacey since 2007, explained that the incident happened after she became overwhelmed when she realized the award-winning show had ended once and for all.
She told me The sun: ‘On the last day on set I thought ‘get together’, but I was in such a state that I threw my boiling hot coffee in make-up on myself.
‘I had to ask the costume department to wash my clothes. It was good because the shock of the combustion woke me up.”
Joanna previously revealed that filming the very last episode left her ‘crying and laughing hysterically’.

The very last part of the sitcom will air on Christmas Day this year in a 90-minute special, after fans of the show begged for an end to the story
She said: “It was traumatic being on set with everyone for the last time. I knew I was going to cry as soon as I walked onto the set.
“I saw Steve’s face, our first AD, and I burst into tears. Then I saw Sophie Hebron, our second AD, and I burst into tears again. So then I went into my trailer and Julia Davis came in and sat with me, and I couldn’t stop crying because it felt like it was such a huge journey that was coming to an end.
“So I thought it was very emotional, but then hysterically funny in between, because the last scene we filmed was funny, so I alternated between crying hysterically and laughing hysterically.”
Recalling the final moments on set, she continued, “At the very end, during our last stretch of filming, I felt a sense of calm come over me.
“I remember standing there and looking at everyone and everyone’s faces, and I remember very calmly smiling to myself and thinking, ‘Wow, look where we’ve all come, look where we all are now.’
“I delivered my last lines, the way I wanted to, and the way I had to, and then they shouted, ‘It’s done,’ and then they all clapped goodbye and I just hugged Mat , and we both stood there crying.’
After filming, Joanna revealed that she managed to bring home a large part of her character Stacey from the set.
She said: “I definitely brought home some memorabilia, I have all of Stacey’s costume from the last episode, all her shoes and her jewelry.

‘I also brought a framed painting from Stacey and Gwen’s house, and I also brought this glass ornamental duck, which is an ornament from Stacey’s dresser in the living room.
Filming for the series finale began on September 2 and since then the cast has been photographed in a range of locations, including the famous Barry Island in Wales, which is central to the iconic comedy.
One of the major plot points that has emerged appears to be Nessa’s wedding, which could provide an answer to the cliffhanger that ended the 2019 special.
Stars Ruth Jones and James Corden were scheduled to film scenes for a wedding in October.
However, the cast itself has yet to confirm whether Smithy and Nessa will indeed get their happy ending.
The cast recently confirmed they had finished filming scenes on the famous Trinity Street, which serves as the backdrop to the homes of both Stacey and Gavin, her mother Gwen and uncle Bryn.
“You haven’t seen anything because we’ve been inside, which shows that you are truly dedicated fans of the show and we hope you won’t be disappointed on Christmas Day when all will be revealed,” Ruth told fans.
“This is our farewell to Barry and to Trinity Street, so you won’t see us here again, but we’ve had a wonderful 17 years, it’s been fantastic.”
James added: “Thank you so much to everyone, we’ll see you soon.”
Ruth has since told The Big Issue: ‘I keep telling people that this finale might not be what you expect. And I guarantee we won’t be back again.’
It will be the first episode of the BBC sitcom since the last Christmas special in 2019
James added: “What people are going to see on Christmas Day is the culmination of a 20-year love story, which hopefully at least shows that love is complicated and messy and applies to everyone.”
It will be the first episode of the BBC sitcom since the last Christmas special in 2019.
That episode, which was watched by 12 million viewers, ended on a cliffhanger with Nessa on one knee as she proposed.
The show revolves around the ups and downs of Gavin and Stacey’s initially long-distance relationship, which saw him live with his parents in Billericay, Essex, and her on Barry Island.
The pair eventually get married, while their respective best friends Smithy and Nessa have a son, Neil, who is now 15 and will also return for the final episode ever.
Gavin & Stacey: The Finale airs on Christmas Day at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer and Gavin & Stacey: A Fond Farewell airs on New Year’s Day at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
