Influencer is roasted for insane outfit: ‘I’d have handed her my luggage’

Influencer Arielle Charnas has been widely mocked online after appearing outside a swanky New York hotel wearing what appeared to be a bellhop uniform.

Charnas, once the power behind the failed clothing brand Something Navy, still shares her precious daily outfits with her 1.3 million Instagram followers.

But in one of her recent Instagram Stories, the mother of three appeared outside the expensive St. Regis Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, known for its old-world luxury and charm.

The hotel is known for offering “butler service” to its guests, but Charnas’ choice of uniform led some online to believe she may have been mistaken for an employee of the hotel rather than one of its well-heeled guests.

“I would have given her my luggage and ten dollars,” one snarky critic wrote online.

“Howwww do you have a sister who is one of the most sought-after stylists (and rightly so) at your disposal and you just show up??” they asked, referring to Charna’s sibling, fashion designer Danielle Goldberg, who has dressed stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Greta Lee and Saoirse Ronan.

“Did she get a job at FAO Schwartz?!” another joker joked online, referring to the uniform worn by doormen who man the famous toy store.

‘This horrible outfit shows (for the 1000th) time that this woman has 0 style and only buys things because of the designer label on them. I don’t know why anyone looks to her for fashion ideas,” said another blunt troll online.

“Looks like she’s going to fight for the Union Army!” added another criticism of her fashion.

“What’s going on lately with influencers dressing up as flight attendants?” wrote one critic.

Another joked: “Michael Jackson wore it better,”

Charnas was one of the most successful examples of the first wave of fashion bloggers after she started Something Navy on Blogspot in 2009.

Over the next decade, she built a loyal audience of more than 1 million Instagram followers who spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on the leggings and sweaters she recommended.

She made her breakthrough in 2018 when she switched from promoting other brands to selling her own, becoming one of the first influencers to launch a licensed clothing collection with Nordstrom before breaking out on her own.

But things weren’t going well for the brand and there were rumors that the company was cashing in quickly.

In 2023, Something Navy closed stores and laid off staff. Charnas subsequently stopped wearing the clothes on Instagram.

The brand eventually closed in August, with Charnas describing it as a “mini hiatus” while she looked for new partners.

Earlier this year, Charnas’ husband, Brandon Charnas, was criminally investigated by the DOJ for his alleged involvement in insider trading. Bloomberg.

Brandon Charnas infamously refused to cooperate with an insider trading investigation previously opened by the US Secret Service Securities and Exchange Commissionwhich examines a $385,000 profit he made in early 2021 using potentially non-public information.

According to unnamed law enforcement officials, the Justice Department has now opened a criminal investigation into the same case.

Charnas and nine other people are embroiled in the investigation, which centers on speculation that home office giant Staples would make a bid for Office Depot.

The investigation dates back to late December 2020, when Charnas met friends for lunch in Miami.

Later that afternoon, he invested $31,000 in Office Depot call options, apparently thinking the stock would rise, the SEC alleges.

Over the next few days, Charnas and his lunch meeting partners bought options and shares of ODP Corp., Office Depot’s parent company.

About two weeks later, Staples announced its offer and Office Depot stock rose from less than $30 per share in December 2020 to nearly $43 per share in January 2021.

One of the traders texted the group chat: “You’re welcome, boy,” to which another replied: “You’re the man.”

A day after Staples announced its $40 per share offer for ODP in mid-January 2021, Charnas eliminated 50 percent of his call options and walked away with a 635 percent gain.

The following month, there was news that there had been “unusual trading activity” at Office Depot ahead of the earnings results.

Due to his wife’s fame and previous scandals, the SEC’s investigation was widely documented in traditional media and on social media.

David Axelrod, an attorney for Charnas, said in a statement: “Brandon did not engage in insider trading.”
