School teacher, 23, charged with possessing child abuse material

A school teacher has been arrested for possessing child pornography.

NSW Police detectives launched an investigation on December 3 after receiving reports that a 23-year-old man was in possession of child abuse material.

Officers executed a search warrant at a school in Port Stephens, near Newcastle on the NSW north coast, on December 4.

Detectives seized several electronic devices for forensic examination.

The 23-year-old man was arrested on Friday and taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with possession of child abuse material.

He was granted strict conditional bail and will appear at Maitland Local Court on January 15.
