‘All hail our new Twitter overlord’: Twitter users share hilarious memes as Elon Musk takes over
>
The news that the world’s richest man Elon Musk has formally taken over Twitter in a $44 billion deal was met with a flurry of hilarious memes from users on the platform.
Twitter users flocked to the website after the deal was officially announced, while Musk himself chirped with his own humorous post: “The bird is freed.”
The Tesla CEO, who immediately fired some top executives from Twitter, doesn’t have to scroll long on his newly acquired website to find a sea of memes.
Sources suspect Musk himself will take over as CEO — even if it’s just an interim role.
John Paul Augustynowicz said in a short but comical Tweet: “Everyone greets our new Twitter overlord. He will meme for a long time.’
One of Musk’s first steps will be to reinstate users who have received a lifetime ban from the platform, including former US President Donald Trump.
Twitter has erupted with memes responding to the news that Elon Musk has become the new owner of the platform
Delighted Twitter users greeted Tesla CEO, with one user posting: ‘Long live the king’
Musk himself posted a Tweet with the caption: ‘the bird is free’ when the announcement was made that he would take over
Musk has often attacked Twitter’s content moderation and censorship policies — something he wants to change
Republican Lauren Boebert, responding to Musk’s cryptic announcement on Twitter, said: “The bird is free, now free the GOAT. @realDonaldTrump’ – the acronym stands for Greatest Of All Time.
Hilarious memes flooded in throughout the day, including videos of Musk dancing in a video for Tesla with captions like, “Elon Musk after his takeover.”
Others made fun of the news that Twitter’s CEO Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and the company’s top attorney, Vijaya Gadde, were being evicted hours after Musk finalized the acquisition last night.
Agrawal, who has repeatedly clashed with Musk over the number of users Twitter has, will lose his job by $42 million after serving as CEO for just under a year.
Hilarious memes flooded Twitter throughout the day, including an image of former CEO Parag Agrawal chasing Musk with a speech bubble that reads “Stop! You can’t post that!!!’ with reference to the new owner’s opinion on censorship
A meme showed Musk and Trump in hysterics as they gathered their food at Agrawal, pictured as a McDonald’s employee in the window.
Meanwhile, another user had Photoshopped Musk’s face onto the body of Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor as he took his iconic cocky walk into the cage.
Delighted Twitter users paid tribute to the South African Tesla owner. One said, “Long live the king,” and posted a picture of Musk wearing a crown on his head.
And other witty users posted a famous scene from the Entourage where Hollywood super agent Ari Gold takes revenge on many of his enemies as he storms through the TMA agency and paintballs all the agents he fires.
Musk had publicly criticized Twitter’s existing leadership team, most notably attacking their content moderation and censorship policies. He also talked to them about data on how many accounts were bots or spam.
This deal comes at the eleventh hour — just one day before Musk would be back in court after being sued by Twitter for a back-and-forth he had over whether to buy the company.
On Wednesday, the billionaire changed his Twitter profile to identify himself as the “Chief Twit” and posted a video of him walking into the company’s San Francisco headquarters with a porcelain sink.
One user compared Agrawal and Musk’s relationship to that of former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte, who clashed at the final whistle after a 2-2 draw in August
This fueled rumors that Musk had made the deal to buy Twitter, in which he shared the clip with the caption: “Entering Twitter HQ, let that sink in.”
Musk, known for his comic Tweets, was trending on the social media platform for several hours.
Another hilarious meme showed Agrawal chasing Musk down the road with a speech bubble that read ‘Stop! You can’t post that!!!’ regarding the new owner’s views on censorship.
Meanwhile, another user posted a cartoon of Musk releasing the Twitter bird logo from a cage he was trapped in.
Other creative users referred to the battle between former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte. The pair faced off and shook hands viciously at the end of the 2-2 clash.
The Twitter user comically resurfaced the manager’s image before and after the match, comparing the relationship with Agrawal and Musk with the caption, “How it started How it goes.”
However, the acquisition of Musk was not received entirely with positive reactions. ‘RIP Twitter’ was also trending on Twitter from those involved that the platform will be less strict on censorship.
Despite a serious response from concerned Twitter users, many were happy with the news. MichyDraven posted a video of Musk dancing in a Tesla video with the caption: ‘Elon Musk fire CEO & CFO after buying Twitter and undo MichyDraven’
The billionaire has been in trouble before for some of his views, including comments on transgender issues.
In 2020, he tweeted that “pronouns suck,” then hastily deleted the post, saying, “I definitely support trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare.”
He has also expressed support for Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who has introduced the so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill.
Musk’s transgender daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, also cut ties with him earlier this year, saying she’s “no longer [lives] want to be related to my biological father or in any way.”
But others came back with memes of Musk as an old man, captioning “Elon Musk after he deleted every bot on Twitter.”
