He was recently charged with abusing restaurant workers in New York.

But James Corden appears to be putting the resistance behind him as he appeared on Good Morning Britain on Friday to talk about his return to the UK.

The talk show host, 44, opened up his pride for Britain after his years in Los Angeles and his love for his wife Julia Carey.

Of their meeting, he said, “I definitely knew from the first moment that I couldn’t do better than this. When I met Jules… It’s a miracle.

“Every day she just has to look at me… ‘What have I done? It’s a big mistake!'”

Returning home, he said being in the US would never be a “final destination” and described the UK as “wonderful”.

James said, “I love where we live, I love being in Los Angeles…I love it, but we always knew it was an adventure, not a final destination.

“This place is amazing, this little island. The things it created, the things it gave the world. I’ve always been very proud to call it my home.’

The Gavin and Stacey star has revealed he will step down as host of The Late Late Show, saying the final show would be “emotional.”

He said: ‘It gets very emotional. It becomes a real thing to bring it to a good end. I’m so proud of what we’ve done.’

James’ friends have previously spoken of his desire to return to his native Britain “to be closer to family”.

Ben Turner, the co-founder of his production company Fulwell 73, told Variety that he is “very excited to get James back to the UK” in an interview in July.

James will wrap up the final shooting of his latest series of the Late Late Show in the spring, with Turner telling the magazine: “[Corden] has just as many strings on his bow, and ‘Late’ is a big engagement that takes up so much of his time.

“We’re just really excited about him coming back to the UK, and all the things that come with it, but it’s a big moment for us.”

James’ interview comes after he was called “a little cretin of a man” by Keith McNally, the British owner of the upscale New York restaurant Balthazar.

In a series of scathing social media posts on Monday, McNally claimed the comedian berated the servers on two separate occasions, saying he planned to ’86’ — banned — Corden from his restaurant.

According to McNally, one of James’ rants came after he found a hair in his meal, prompting him to ask for free drinks and threatening to post nasty reviews on Yelp.

On the second occasion, James blew up when his wife Julia, 46, was presented with an egg yolk omelet that also contained a trace of egg white.

James then called McNally to apologize for his behavior, but rekindled the feud over a New York Times interview published Friday, in which he said the drama was “below me” and denied doing anything wrong.

He also complained about the backlash, telling the newspaper: ‘I feel so zen about the whole thing.

‘Because I think it’s so stupid. I just think it’s below all of us. It’s under you. It’s definitely under your publication.’

When he compared the media’s response to his bad behavior to a school principal helping bullies in the classroom, he added:

“The headmaster decides to stand up and say, ‘I’d like all those bullies to come up on stage and say into the microphone what they just said in the hallway.’

The interview then sparked a response from McNally, who demanded that James apologize to the servers he abused.

In an Instagram post on Friday, he said: “I don’t feel like kicking a guy when he’s down, but I think the best way for James Corden to regain some of the tremendous respect the public has for him before this incident is to admit it and apologize to the young servers he abused.”

He added, “Whatever Corden meant, his implication was clear: He didn’t do it.”

The restaurateur concluded his outburst by saying that if Corden “apologies to the 2 servers he offended, I’ll let him eat at Balthazar for free for the next 10 years.”

Good Morning Britain on weekdays from 6am on ITV & ITV Hub
