Peter Crouch admits he ‘doesn’t understand’ why Ange Postecoglou won’t adapt his attacking approach after the Tottenham boss faced criticism for his aggressive tactics
Peter Crouch has insisted he ‘doesn’t understand’ why Ange Postecoglou is refusing to negotiate his way of playing at Tottenham.
Postecoglou took his Spurs team to Ibrox on Thursday evening to take on Rangers in the Europa League, in the midst of a terrible run of form that has seen them lose their last three games.
The Australian faced angry fans after the defeat to Bournemouth a week ago, and his side followed that up with a 4-3 defeat at home to Chelsea despite leading 2-0.
He has been criticized for his playing style in recent days, with many claiming that he should adjust his team’s play based on the state of the game, rather than always going all out.
Yet he stuck to his guns in the London derby and his side suffered as a result, raising questions in the match against Rangers.
And former Tottenham striker Crouch gave his assessment of the manager’s methods and questioned them in a speech to TNT Sports.
“I honestly don’t understand it,” he said. ‘You just don’t understand why you have to manage the game better, fill the gaps, sometimes you have to manage the game.
‘They go for the next goal permanently, and as a neutral it’s nice, but as a Tottenham fan you tear your hair out wondering why they can’t see games.
“They have something special and they are not far away from success, but they need to make some changes.”
