Urgent recall for millions of popular granola bars that contain pieces of metal that can cut people’s throats

The maker of a popular granola bar has issued an emergency recall for millions of its products over concerns they contain bits of metal.

Riverside Natural Foods Inc. has recalled several batches of MadeGood bars over concerns that eating them “could pose a safety hazard.”

The Canada-based company says the metals come from “small, flat bristles,” although it’s unclear how large they are.

The FDA says foreign objects in food larger than 7 mm can cause trauma or serious injury, especially in the elderly and children.

A study by Riverside Natural Foods Inc. it turned out that the metal pieces ended up in the bars during the production process.

The recall affects 11 different flavors of MadeGood granola bars sold in multi-pack boxes.

The affected flavors are; Chocolate chip, chocolate sprinkled Christmas sprinkles, mixed berries, strawberry, cookies and cream, Halloween chocolate chip, chocolate banana, chocolate sprinkled, chocolate sprinkled birthday cake, chocolate sprinkled cookie crumble and chocolate sprinkled vanilla.

A popular brand of granola bars sold around the world has issued an emergency recall after millions of its bars were found to contain metal shards

The products were manufactured between January and November 2024 and distributed in Canada, the United States and other international markets.

In the US, retailers including Whole Foods and Walmart stock the MadeGood brand and the bars are also available through Amazon.

Prices range from about $10 for a six-pack to $40 for a 30-pack.

Consumers who have purchased these products are asked to check them against a comprehensive list issued by the FDA.

Any affected bars can be returned to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.

MadeGood says it has received seven complaints so far out of the “hundreds of millions of bars sold,” and that no injuries have been reported.

On its website, it adds: ‘We are recalling these products out of an abundance of caution as we believe transparency and the safety of our consumers come first.’

In addition to granola bars, MadeGood makes a variety of other products, including crackers, cookies and oat bars.

However, the company said there will be no impact on other products.

The company says it has “fixed the issue and tested the new processes to ensure any future risk is fully mitigated.”

Work is now underway with retailers to ensure that all recalled products are immediately removed from shelves.

Riverside Natural Foods was founded in 2013 in Ontario, Canada, by three siblings Nima, Salma and Sahba Fotovat and it remains a family business.

MadeGood was the first brand to launch, with the Good To Go and Cookie Pal brands launching at later dates.
