An Indian cricket fan was escorted from the Adelaide Oval Test after waving sandpaper at Australian supporters.

Although the man’s cheeky gesture – dressed in a white playing top – was generally well received, it did not stop two security guards from kicking him out of the venue on day three of the action.

The 2018 sandpaper scandal in Cape Town, South Africa, was a dark day for Australian sport.

Cameron Bancroft was caught on camera using sandpaper to illegally change the shape of the ball – and chaos ensued.

It later emerged that he was forced to do so by David Warner, whose reputation was in tatters.

Warner – and then captain Steve Smith – was later banned by Cricket Australia (CA) for 12 months for bringing the sport into disrepute, while Bancroft was sidelined for nine months.

The recent view from Adelaide was shared on X – and was viewed almost 420,000 times in less than 48 hours.

Although the guards didn’t see the funny side of the man’s gesture, many Australian cricket fans did.

One supporter wrote: ‘Indian fans should do this in Brisbane [during the third Test]will be fun.’

Another commented: ‘Peak cinema. In [the] The next match, all Indian fans should bring sandpaper.”

A third said: ‘This man deserves an award….Aussies [are] so soft.’

Meanwhile, Australian cricket legend Jeff Thomson has admitted he loved the clash between Travis Head and Mohammed Siraj in Adelaide.

Siraj red-carded Head after his dismissal in Australia’s first innings – and the local boy chirped back enthusiastically after scoring 140.

David Warner (pictured) and then captain Steve Smith were banned for 12 months by Cricket Australia for bringing the sport into disrepute, while Cameron Bancroft was sidelined for nine months.

Both were later found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct following their verbal altercation.

Siraj was fined 20 percent of his match fee and Head had a penalty point added to his record, but the pair are said to have reconciled their differences.

Thomson loved the theater and wouldn’t mind seeing some extra excitement in the rest of the Test series.

“I’d rather see that (showdown in Adelaide) than batsmen joking with bowlers, which I’ve seen a few times this summer,” Thomson said.

‘At least you know they’re playing seriously. People who pay their money don’t want them to be comradely. They want it to the fullest.’
