Chilling Netflix doc to expose the ‘dark underbelly’ of a small-town feud that ended in attempted murder
The brand new Netflix documentary series The Kings of Tupelo: A Southern Crime Saga is already being dubbed the next Tiger King – and subscribers are patiently awaiting its arrival.
The upcoming true crime show follows a small-town feud, an Internet conspiracy, an Elvis impersonator, black market body parts and an assassination attempt on former President Barack Obama.
The series, which debuts on December 11, is described as an “outrageous Southern Fever dream” and it’s easy to see why after watching the wild two-minute trailer.
“I had the most controversial story in the entire state of Mississippi and possibly the entire country,” contributor and main character Paul Kevin Curtis explains in the teaser.
‘My mother raised me on Jesus, Elvis and cornbread. And yes, in that order. I had a peaceful, beautiful life. But one person hated me and made my life hell.
‘James Everett Dutschke – a karate instructor in Tupelo, Mississippi.’
Curtis’ feud with Dutschke will be exposed in the documentary, including drive-by shootings and arson.
“He shot my dog with a tranquilizer!” Curtis exclaims in the teaser, before adding, “This is my rival enemy stalking my every move.”

“This thing became a war,” he adds. “I said stop stalking me, bitch!”
Unsurprisingly, viewers were gripped by the trailer, with many sharing their excitement for the docuseries’ release.
In a comment on YouTube, someone said: ‘I’m going to sit down for this.’
“OMG this looks so good,” wrote another.
A third wrote, “I live about 15 minutes outside of Tupelo and work there. I remember when all this happened. I can’t wait to watch this!’
A fourth continued: ‘I’m always looking for the next ‘Tiger King’. High expectations for this.’
In 2014, Dutschke was sentenced to 25 years in prison. His sentence came a year after he was arrested for sending ricin-laced letters to Obama.
However, Curtis was initially charged for the crime.

“His mission to expose the dark underbelly of Tupelo sparks a rivalry that starts locally but rises to the highest office in Washington, DC.”
The docuseries is from the directors of the Emmy-winning series Wild Wild Country and the studio that made Tiger King.
