Cole Palmer has revealed the moment he decided to attempt his Panenka penalty finish after scoring the winner in Chelsea’s 4-3 comeback win over Tottenham.

The 22-year-old was the star of Chelsea’s magical win. His two cool penalties helped the visitors take the lead in the derby for the first time, before he sealed the win with his second goal.

Sunday’s goals mean Palmer has now scored each of England’s top 12 kicks in his career, which is the most of any player with a 100 percent record in the competition’s history.

Tottenham supporters targeted the Blues playmaker with abuse and physical objects thrown from the crowd during the match and Palmer made his feelings known after scoring his second goal.

His cheeky Panenka wrong-footed goalkeeper Fraser Forster and destroyed any remaining hope among Spurs players, with Palmer making his feelings known as he celebrated.

Afterwards, Palmer celebrated his man-of-the-match title by revealing the exact moment he decided he would try the risky penalty technique in the high-stakes encounter.

“When I stepped back, I looked at the clock and thought the game was a bit hectic. The keeper was ready to dive so I chipped him,” Palmer told Sky Sports.

“I’m just trying to score and luckily it went in,” he said as he analyzed his poor finish.

The former Manchester City star was mobbed by his teammates as he scored and the victory continued Chelsea’s stunning form under new manager Enzo Maresca, keeping them firmly in the title race.

Palmer was once again the club’s standout star during his second season at the club, scoring his 10th and 11th Premier League goals in the campaign against Tottenham.

His performances were at the heart of the club’s stunning rise as the Blues moved within four points of leaders Liverpool to finish second in the Premier League standings.

Jamie Redknapp was among those to praise the Three Lions forward as he watched Palmer lead Chelsea to a stunning win that was dramatically saved in the rollercoaster clash.

‘It’s an absolute pleasure to watch this man play football, there aren’t many like him. He’s just so cool and calm on the ball,” Redknapp said.

‘The things he does with the ball make the game look so easy. The Paneneka punishment, but the little bits and pieces he does when he gets it.

“Everything goes in slow motion when he gets it and it’s just a joy,” Redknapp added during his analysis.
