Watch: Chris and Dianne struggle to hold back tears after a semi-final performance
Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell got emotional after their appearance on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday.
The comedian, 47, is the first blind contestant in the BBC show’s history, and on Saturday he and partner Dianne scored 36 out of 40 for their Viennese waltz to Metallica song Nothing Else Matters.
With his arm around Dianne, Chris held back tears as he told host Claudia Winkleman, “When you start this series, they ask you for a list of songs you like.” And I put this song on there and didn’t know anything about dancing.
‘Underneath I wrote: “I think this might suit one of those spinny whizzies” and I was right! But it’s incredible and it felt great to do this with Diane.”
Friends of the CBeebies star turned out to support him as a studio audience during the semi-final, and he admitted he was an ’emotional wreck’ with them there.
He warned Claudia, “Don’t get me started, I’m an emotional wreck tonight. I’m telling you.’

Pete Wicks’ will invite Maura Higgins to watch him in the final of Strictly Come Dancing
According to reports, Pete Wicks is planning to invite Maura Higgins to see him in the Strictly Come Dancing final this Saturday.
The former TOWIE star, 36, has told friends he would like to ‘make it official’ with the beauty, 34, when she returns to Britain from I’m A Celeb in Australia.
In recent months the pair have been meeting up for secret dates, although both stars have refused to label their relationship and insist they are still single.
A source told The Sun: ‘Pete really missed Maura while she was away and found it difficult not to contact her. It made him realize how special she is to him.
‘He has told his friends that he is thinking of asking her to be ‘exclusive’, meaning not dating anyone else.
‘And if he makes it to the Strictly final next week, he thinks this would be the perfect week to invite her to watch him in the audience.’
Tasha Ghouri eyes career after Strictly Come Dancing journey
Tasha Ghouri wants to take the next step in her career after her time on Strictly Come Dancing.
As the show’s second deaf contestant, the 26-year-old has consistently impressed this season, topping the Strictly leaderboard several times and achieving the first perfect score of 2024 with her American Smooth performance.
With only two weeks left in the competition, Tasha is already looking at new opportunities in television presenting.
“I haven’t had many TV offers yet, but I would love to present next year,” Tasha said.
“I think that’s my main focus and something I’m definitely looking at. Hopefully there will be discussions next year.’
She was born deaf and had a cochlear implant. She made history on Love Island as the first deaf contestant, finishing joint fourth with her boyfriend, Andrew Le Page, who she is still in a relationship with.

Strictly fans ‘gutted’ as dance-off results have been leaked
Strictly Come Dancing viewers are outraged after the results of Saturday’s show were leaked again, ahead of next week’s grand final.
The BBC competition will air the pre-recorded results show on Sunday evening, showing which two couples received the fewest votes and made it into the dance-off.
But a notorious mole on the flagship show has revealed the bottom two couples and which of them will be sent off and narrowly miss the final.
And while the latest spoiler has left fans ‘sad’ and ‘disappointed’, they have taken to social media to praise the remaining four as ‘deserving’ finalists.
They wrote: ‘Shame about the spoiler, but they all deserve to be in that final! Congratulations to the finalists’; ‘I’m happy that my favorite made it to the final!’
Pete Wick’s favorite to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing
Pete Wicks is a heavy favorite to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing in Saturday’s semi-final after surviving in the competition last weekend despite finishing bottom of the leaderboard.
The former TOWIE star, 36, is 4/9 to leave on Sunday according to William Hill, although he has defied the odds in recent weeks.
He avoided the week 11 dance-off after scoring just 26 points for his waltz on Saturday night, but with just five couples left in the competition he is strongly tipped to go next.
JB Gill is next on the market at 3/1, followed by Tasha Ghouri at 8/1 – the survivor of the most recent dance-off.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said: ‘Pete Wicks has once again defied the odds to avoid his elimination from Strictly Come Dancing, but we’re betting 4/9 his luck runs out this Saturday.
‘The public mood is currently saving the ex-TOWIE star, but with only five combinations left in the competition, it looks increasingly likely that Wicks will find himself in this week’s dance-off and is unlikely to be saved by the judges, with JB Gill following him in for the next elimination at 3/1.’
