Jessica Chastain makes a rare appearance with her stepfather Michael Hastey, Tracy Morgan

Jessica Chastain attended the New York Knicks game against the Charlotte Hornets at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.

The 45-year-old performer appeared to be enjoying her time at the event, and she made it a point to hold up a towel with the home team logo as she posed for a photo.

She was accompanied by her stepfather, Michael Hastey, who sat next to New York City-born Tracy Morgan during the game.

Jessica was raised in Sacramento, California by her mother Jerri Castaine and stepfather Michael Hastey.

The star’s estranged father, Michael Monasterio, died in 2013.

The actress’s appearance at the event took place on the same day her new movie, The Good Nurse, was released on the Netflix streaming platform.

Chastain opted for a black jacket and matching pants as she watched the Knicks play.

The Academy Award-winning performer rocked a set of high-heeled leather shoes decorated with several rings.

Her bright red hair fell like a waterfall on her shoulders, adding a striking element of color to her outfit.

Chastain’s new film, The Good Nurse, was based on Charles Graeber’s book The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder, originally published in 2013.

The film is about a nurse who develops a close friendship with another health worker who becomes the prime suspect in a series of deaths at their hospital.

The actress plays a character named Amy Loughren, while Eddie Redmayne plays convicted criminal Charles Cullen.

Cullen was sentenced to six life sentences in 2006 for numerous murders he committed during his career, many of which remain unconfirmed.

Also starring in the feature were Noah Emmerich, Nnamdi Asomugha and Kim Dickens.

The development of the project was announced in 2016, when Tobias Lindholm signed on as director.

Chastain and Redmayne are said to have entered into talks to lead the cast of the feature in 2018.

Negotiations for the pair were fought over the next two years and it was not until 2020 that it was confirmed that they would be starring.

The stars of the film talked about working on the project during an interview with Weekly entertainmentwhere the 40-year-old actor expressed that he and his costar became close while learning how to play some nurses.

“We’ve been in class for about two weeks — and there’s no better way to bond with someone than being back in class,” he said.

Redmayne further noted that Chastain made it a point to throw herself into her role.

“I’d watch her run around the set for 10 minutes for a shot to get her heart rate up… her commitment is unmatched,” he said.

He recalled, “She would come to nursing school early, get busy putting these IV lines in these pacifiers, and it took me a lot more practice. She had more of a natural instinct for it.’

The Good Nurse premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, which took place last September.

It went on a limited release in the United States earlier this month and debuted on Netflix on Wednesday.

The Good Nurse has received generally positive reviews from critics and currently holds a 78% rating on Rotten tomatoes.
