Missing Georgia toddler Quinton Simon’s grandmother has admitted that she and her suspected daughter Leilani Simon made a “bad decision” to enjoy a night of drinking at a seaside town while police searched for the little boy’s body.
But Billie Jo Howell blamed protesters in her hometown for making her feel like a prisoner, the DailyMail.com can reveal.
Her concession came when the little boy’s babysitter joined the chorus of criticism on the night out.
“If my grandchild or my child was missing, I wouldn’t sleep, wouldn’t eat,” McCarta said. ‘I wouldn’t do anything. I would be looking for my child,” Diana McCarta told DailyMail.com in an interview.
Howell, 45, told Quinton’s biological father in an 11-minute phone call obtained by DailyMail.com that she and Leilani had gone to Tybee Island because of protests outside her home.
“It got so bad,” she told Henry “Bubba” Moss.

“Quinton was so precious, smart, very loving,” McCarta gushed to DailyMail.com. “When he ran into my house, he would always fall and get up again laughing. He was a very sweet boy’

Leilani and her mother, Billie Jo Howell, were drowning their sorrows at StingRay’s, a beach bar in the vacation town of Tybee Island, as authorities searched for Quinton
“My out-of-town friends who come here to support me stayed close to me for two days and then decided to get a beachfront room for two days.”
As protesters gathered outside her home, honked and shouted “baby killers” into the night, Billie Jo, 22-year-old Leilani, and their friends checked in at the $72-a-night Sandcastle motel on Tybee Island, a 50-minute vacation destination. . from their home in Savannah.
“And we went there,” she said. “And I told them I don’t like the idea of us going out in public with you. I think it’s better we stay in the (motel) room here.
“And they say, what, you can’t go out for dinner?” she continued.
They crossed the street to StingRay’s, a bar on the evening of October 18. The mother-daughter duo sat outside with the friends, knocking down Patron shots and teasing their waiter for drinking with them.
That same day, FBI agents combed through a landfill looking for little Quinton’s body near the family’s home. Police have named the boy’s mother as the prime suspect in the disappearance and have stated that Quinton is presumed dead.

‘Now I rationalized in my head, ‘yeah, why can’t we have dinner?’ You know what I mean?’ Billie Jo continued the phone call with Bubba.
“And before you know it we were partying and yelling and yelling.
“And that’s not the case,” she insisted. “Leilani didn’t even drink. Now I drank both drinks ordered for Leilani. I was drinking (a friend’s drink). And I drank mine.
“So I was confused.
“And then, of course, I lay down on the beach and just cried,” she said. “But they didn’t play that part, you know.”
Billie Jo said she was mortified when the media brought them out. After breakfast at a nearby restaurant the next morning, she was filmed driving away from the hotel on a white Harley Davidson.
“People hate me,” she said desperately during Saturday’s phone call with Bubba.
Quinton has been missing since October 5 and the police believe he is dead. They have named Leilani as the prime suspect in his disappearance, although they have not arrested her.
Quinton’s babysitter joined the chorus that hit mother and daughter.
McCarta, 47, spoke to DailyMail.com for the first time since she was seen in a video scolded by the boy’s grandmother for talking about the family publicly.
“To me, I’m a different person,” McCarta, 47, said in an exclusive interview at her home in Savannah, Georgia, a block away from where the toddler disappeared on Oct. 5.
Quenton’s mother, Leilani, called the police on Oct. 5, claiming she had woken up and could not find her son.

McCarta had been the child’s nanny for the past nine months.
“Quinton was so precious, smart, very loving,” she gushed to DailyMail.com. “When he ran into my house, he would always fall and get up again laughing. He was a very sweet boy.’
After the child disappeared, McCarta revealed that she received a text that morning from Leilani’s boyfriend, Danny Youngkin, saying that she didn’t have to take care of him that day.
That was 30 minutes before Quinton was “last seen” by Youngkin, and a few hours before Leilani reported him missing.
The nanny pointed out that youth care was involved in the family. She also talked about making a memorial to the boy.
McCarta also said she got into a heated argument with Billie Jo on Oct. 11 after the grandmother barged in through her back door to confront her.
“My baby isn’t dead!” Howell yells on the video, which McCarta’s daughter recorded.
“Hit me, hit me,” McCarta ventured at one point, causing the grandmother to reply, “Do you think I would?”

During the DailyMail.com interview, the babysitter provided some additional details about what caused the explosion.
She said Billie Jo wanted to know if McCarta blamed her for what had happened.
“Everyone blamed her and blamed her for not being home,” McCarta said.
“Billie Jo asked me if I blamed her, and I told her my honest opinion. I just said, “If you’d been here, it probably would have turned out differently.” And she got mad at me.
“I think she wanted me to say, ‘I’m sorry for you. But I’m sorry for none other than Quinton. He’s the one I regret.
“She just burst into my house and that was it,” she said.
In the days since, McCarta has maintained a lower profile.
“Since I spoke about Quinton on the news, we’ve received a lot of threats,” said McCarta, who has three children of her own. “Our photos are here now. People know where we stand. I’ve been told it’s none of our business not to talk.’
