Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is mercilessly mocked for sharing his 2024 Spotify Wrapped playlist… and you’ll never guess what’s on it

Music fans eagerly await the release of Spotify Wrapped playlists at the end of each year so they can share their most listened to songs and artists with their followers.

And Prime Minister Anthony Albanese did not shy away from jumping on the popular trend on Thursday when he gave a glimpse of his own 2024 annual review via social media.

However, ‘Albo’ was mercilessly mocked for sharing his most listened to songs, being branded ’embarrassing’ with many claiming he was just trying to win over young voters.

Some Aussies also urged the Labor Party leader to focus on running the country rather than sharing his taste in music, arguing that “no one cares” about his Spotify playlists.

On social media, one person said angrily: ‘Nobody cares. Do your job.’

“It’s annoying when Obama does it, and it’s annoying when you do it,” wrote another, referring to former US President Barack Obama.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is being criticized for sharing the songs he listened to most in 2024 on Spotify, with many Australians describing him as ’embarrassing’

“Explains why he hasn’t had time to listen to those who voted for him,” said a third.

A fourth said: ‘Yes, this will win the kids back when they see it. Oh wait.’

While a fifth fumed: “Today is December 5, 2024 and Anthony Albanese is the worst Prime Minister in Australian history.”

Another mocked Albo for trying to join the popular social media trend, joking: ‘Dear Diary, why won’t they love me? I know what makes them love me…’

Another added: ‘What’s wrong with you? The worst economic growth in Australia in thirty years and you’re worried about Spotify.’

It wasn’t all negativity for the Prime Minister, however, as others actually praised his music choices.

Many shared their surprise at his top five most played songs of the year, with number one being drummer G Flip’s aptly titled hit Australia.

His top five songs also included Angie McMahon’s Letting Go, Hockey Dad’s Still Have Room, Lime Cordiale’s Pedestal and King Stingray’s Get Me Out.

Commenting on his summary, one fan said: ‘I mean this is a pretty good selection from the PM, not gonna lie.’

While another jumped in with: “You’re so angry you posted this.”

Others also joked that his fifth most played song, Get Me Out, could be a sign of how the 2025 general election will go for the Prime Minister.

This isn’t the first time Albo has shared his Spotify Wrapped, as he was hit with similar backlash last year for posting his 2023 recap.

His most listened to artist last year was none other than Lana Del Ray, while Taylor Swift and Australian hip-hop band Hilltop Hoods also made it.

Albo’s top five most played songs for 2024 weren’t the same as many other Aussies, with Vance Joy’s song Riptide being the number one local song played Down Under this year.

It seemed like many Australians were stuck in the past this year, as Riptide beat out a lot of new releases this year, despite first hitting the airwaves way back in 2013.

Curiously, it’s the second year in a row in which the track, which has amassed nearly three billion streams from the platform, took home the year’s top title.

The song beat Cyril’s Stumblin’ In, Dom Dolla’s Saving Up, The Kid Laroi’s Nights Like This and AC/DC’s 80s hit You Shook Me All Night Long.

It was a similar story in the Top Local Artists category, with iconic children’s entertainers The Wiggles being crowned at number one.

However, when it came to Australia’s most streamed artists, major global megastars predictably topped the Spotify charts.

Pop giant Taylor Swift predictably topped the list with Drake, Zach Bryan, Billie Eillish and The Weeknd.

It was a similar story in the Most Streamed Songs category, with Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things topping the list.

It was closely followed by Sabrina Carpenter’s smash hit Espresso, Noah Kahan’s Stick Season, Shaboozey’s A Bar Song (Tipsy) and Teddy Swims’ Lose Control.
