Nosferatu’s first reviews in as critics are all saying the same thing about Lily-Rose Depp’s performance
Critics are happily sinking their teeth into Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu and Lily-Rose Depp’s revelatory performance.
Eggers, the director behind The Witch and The Lighthouse, returns with Nosferatu – a haunting remake of the 1922 silent classic, which was loosely based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
In this new version, Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of the bloodthirsty Count Orlok, with Depp playing Ellen Hutter, the object of his sinister obsession.
Early reviews are already enthusiastic, calling the film ‘hypnotic’, ‘diabolical’ and ‘the scariest movie since The Shining’, as the film achieved a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Every aspect of the project is receiving rave reviews, but it’s Johnny Depp’s 25-year-old daughter who really steals the spotlight with her performance.
“The film belongs to Lily-Rose Depp, whose performance is a revelation,” stated The Hollywood Reporteras Collider called it ‘one of the best performances of the year.’

Eggers, the director behind creepy period pieces like The Witch and The Lighthouse, returns with Nosferatu: a haunting remake of the 1922 silent classic, which was loosely based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula
“Her scenes with Bill Skarsgard are electrifying,” THR’s David Rooney continued. Depp gives Ellen’s delirium a tragic gravity, which deepens once she recognizes the mystical forces within her that have fueled the vampire’s obsession.
“She can go from weak and vulnerable to demonic in an instant, and the stylized physicality of her attacks is breathtaking.”
Rooney also raved about Eggers, writing, “The director makes even that overused modern horror trope, the jump scare, truly shocking, not just something to immediately laugh off.”
“It’s thrilling to experience a film that is so confident in the way it builds and sustains fear, and so hypnotically scary in that it grabs you by the throat and never lets go.”
“Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu may be a modern horror classic, given how creepy and sensual it approaches age-old material, but it makes it feel entirely new,” IGN agrees.
Fans agreed in one post: “Skarsgard is transformative and Depp is a revelation. One of the best of 2024!”
“NOSFERATU is the most horrifyingly beautiful movie I’ve seen this year,” said another.
‘It confidently adapts the 1922 classic, beat for beat, while taking the scares to new levels. Willem Dafoe, Nicholas Hoult and Ralph Ineson are great, but Lily Rose-Depp is ABSOLUTELY Captivating.’
Early reviews are already glowing, calling the film “hypnotic,” “diabolical,” and “the scariest movie since The Shining,” as the film posted a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Yet another viewer said: ‘Bill Skarsgård’s Count Orlok is pure, sinister nightmare fuel. Lily Rose Depp and Nicholas Hoult’s best work yet.’
In addition to Depp and Skarsgård, Nosferatu features a talented cast including Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, Ellen’s husband, and Willem Dafoe as Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz, a vampire hunter.
The film also stars Emma Corrin as Anna Harding, the wife of Thomas’ friend Friedrich, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The cast is completed by Ralph Ineson as Dr. Wilhelm Sievers, Simon McBurney as Herr Knock, and Paul Maynard and Stacy Thunes in supporting roles.
Eggers’ highly anticipated film Nosferatu will premiere in theaters on December 25, 2024, offering a chilling holiday experience for horror fans.
