Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan on Wednesday granted an extension of the Jan. 6 Selected Committee’s subpoena to Arizona Republican Party leader Kelli Ward’s cell carrier to hand over her phone and text records.

Ward, a former Arizona state senator, filed an emergency filing on Wednesday asking the liberal justice system to temporarily block a lower court decision granting the subpoena to provide her details to the panel as they continue their investigation into the riots. in the Capitol on January 6.

The panel’s subpoena required T-Mobile to transfer its calling and texting business from November 2020 through January 2021.

The GOP leader in Arizona argues that if the subpoena is granted, it would violate her First Amendment rights if investigators could see who she spoke to in the days before and after the Capitol attack.

Arizona was one of two states in which dozens of Republican lawmakers objected to the results of the 2020 presidential election on January 6, 2021.

Ward and her husband were among 11 Republicans who sat on a fraudulent election certification declaring that Trump was the real victor in Arizona, and should therefore receive the votes of the state’s Electoral College.

The signing ceremony for the false determination was videotaped.

Ward and her husband are among several Republicans in states that have held fraudulent certification ceremonies to receive federal subpoenas sent out this summer.

Justice Kagan ordered Ward to submit a response to Ward’s emergency request by 5 p.m. Friday.

Over the weekend, an appeals court dismissed Ward’s claims that her First Amendment rights would be violated if the panel and his staff discovered her phone calls and text messages in efforts to challenge the 2020 election results.

Ward appeared before the panel for testimony but declined to answer questions, as did many other Trump allies who were forced to speak to the select committee.

On January 6, 2021, 147 Republicans in the House and Senate objected to the results of the 2020 presidential election, while the vast majority of Congress voted to codify the outcome as a victory for President Joe Biden.

Six Republicans in the Senate and 121 in the House supported objections to confirm Arizona’s election results, while 128 in the House and seven in the Senate objected to Pennsylvania’s result.

The Supreme Court has become increasingly involved in the Jan. 6 investigation as Election Day approaches and the possibility of the commission being disbanded grows.

The Supreme Court earlier this month rejected a petition from former President Donald Trump requesting the special master of the Mar-a-Lago probe to review classified documents obtained by the FBI during the raid on his Florida home.

Conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas also temporarily blocked a Grand Jury subpoena in Atlanta seeking testimony from GOP South Carolina senator Lindsey Graham. He is under investigation for possible criminal attempts to undo the 2020 election.
