This is why Fortnite’s ‘Ready Up’ button disappeared

Thanks to a record-breaking virtual concert, Chapter 6 Season 1 is in Fortnite has already generated a lot of hype from fans online. But not everything has gone smoothly since the new season started on Sunday. Notably, the ‘Ready Up’ button, which appears at the end of a match and allows you to play a new game, disappeared the same day the new patch went live.

Now, players who want to play multiple matches in a row must return to the lobby to load into another game and suffer the inconvenience of an extra step if they want to continue playing.

The official Fortnite Status account at X confirmed the change on Sunday. According to the developers, the team disabled the button to “investigate an issue.” Epic Games didn’t specify a time frame for when the developers would restore the feature, but said it would return in a “future update.” The post instructed those who wish to play another match to return to the lobby and join a new game from there. (Polygon didn’t play the game until Monday afternoon and the button was still missing.)

This change doesn’t detract from the overall experience, but it can be annoying. I already have to bother my teammates to click the ‘Ready Up’ button when everything works, so now this adds an extra (and completely unnecessary) step to that process. Doing it over and over again can add up over time.

The missing button puts a bit of a dampener on what has been a great debut Fortnite‘s new season of content. Players attended the “Remix: The Finale” concert with Juice WRLD in record numbers on Saturday. According to Epic Games, the event was the most viewed Fortnite concert of all time and amassed over 14 million concurrent players. That, and the introduction of a map and loot pool inspired by Japan, have given players a reason to stay excited for this new era of Fortnite.
