FBI to provide update on disappearance of Maine girl, 14, who vanished after walking into woods near her home
The FBI and Maine State Police will provide an update on the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl who vanished after walking into the woods near her New Zweden home in September.
The FBI’s Boston Division and the Maine State Police will hold a press conference Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Maine Department of Public Safety headquarters in Augusta.
They are expected to share new insights into the mysterious disappearance of 14-year-old Stefanie Damron.
Damron disappeared on September 23 after walking through the woods near her home in New Zweden.
The teenage girl is described as 6 feet tall, weighs 130 pounds, has striking green eyes and shoulder-length brown hair, according to a Main State Police Facebook post.
She was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue long-sleeved shirt and black Harley Davidson hiking boots.
Authorities recently obtained two new photos of Damron to aid search efforts, with the most recent previous image showing her with a flower in her hair from the summer of 2024.
The multi-agency search was extensive, with the Maine Warden Service and the Maine State Police K9 Unit conducting extensive ground searches.

Investigators have been looking through leads across Maine, nationally and even as far away as Canada.
Currently, Stefanie remains missing while the Major Crimes Unit continues to work closely with the FBI.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Maine State Police Houlton Barracks immediately.
Last month, after nearly a month of “extensive” efforts by the Maine State Police and the FBI’s Child Abduction Rapid Response Team, a report indicated the girl is still missing.
State police added that all available resources have been deployed to find the missing girl, including working with the state Computer Crimes Unit and the FBI.

The ongoing search efforts for the missing girl have also inspired locals of the town and surrounding areas to come together and search for anything that could lead them to the missing teenager.
Despite community efforts to find the girl, searchers say the Damron family has refused to become involved.
“We’re not going to stop until we find her,” said Whittni Nichols, who helped lead the civilian search.
The disappearance comes years later after the Damron family moved to New Sweden from Texas after what one member called a “CPS fiasco.”

Stefanie’s father, Christopher Dale Michael Damron, said in a 2019 Facebook post that the family would be “moving away from these bad memories to Maine.”
While the family was living in Rusk, Texas, Stefanie’s parents were arrested after officers allegedly found them drunk at a McDonald’s with two of their children in the car, according to a police report obtained by DailyMail.com.
The children involved have not been identified.
After the incident, Damron’s mother, Lisa Marie Damron, was initially charged with abandonment of a child with intent to return, but she later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of deadly conduct and received a deferred sentence.
In a post after Damron’s disappearance, Lisa Marie claimed that “Stefanie got into a fight with her sister” while her parents were away and she “ran away.”
