Major twist in case of missing Hawaii woman Hannah Kobayashi leaves family furious as they hit out at police chief
Los Angeles police have apparently determined that missing Hawaiian woman Hannah Kobayashi “intentionally” missed her flight to New York City — even though her family says she would never do that.
The 30-year-old disappeared from the streets of downtown Los Angeles after missing a connecting flight from her native Maui to the Big Apple on November 8.
She had previously texted a friend saying she was having a “spiritual awakening” and was later seen in the company of a mystery man on November 11.
Kobayashi’s family has repeatedly said that she didn’t seem to be acting like her normal self — while her sister, Sydni, even suggested that Hannah’s text messages “felt like someone was controlling her.”
But at a Nov. 26 Board of Police Commissioners meeting, LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said that “the investigation determined” that Hannah’s missed connection “was intentional.”
“On November 15, our missing persons unit took on the responsibility of investigating,” he said.
“Detectives carefully reviewed video surveillance and used various investigative techniques to locate Hannah, while her family continued their personal search efforts.”
He went on to say that the LAPD “remains committed to locating Hannah and supporting the family as they navigate their way through this tragedy,” especially after the death of Hannah’s father, Ryan.
Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell announced at a November 26 Board of Police Commissioners meeting that missing Hawaiian woman Hannah Kobayashi (pictured) had “intentionally” missed her connection to New York City on November 8.
Yet Kobayashi’s family said the police chief never told them about the evidence that she had “intentionally” missed her flight, while Sydni suggested there was no evidence.
She claimed in a statement on social media that the family was “unaware of the alleged findings presented at the Los Angeles Police Commission meeting until multiple videos of the meeting were sent to us by multiple citizens.” PEOPLE reports.
“These alleged findings have yet to be reported directly to my mother and me by the chief of the Los Angeles Police Department or any detective involved in Hannah’s case.”
She and her mother, Brandi Yee, also claimed that certain details McDonnell shared about the case during the meeting were inaccurate.
‘Specific facts in that report were incorrect, such as Hannah’s age. Hannah is 30 years old, not 23. Hannah was also reported missing to police on November 11, and not on November 13, as stated by the Los Angeles Police Chief.
“The lack of communication around some important details makes us feel excluded from potentially crucial developments,” Sydni argued.
“However, we remain hopeful and optimistic that the Los Angeles Police Department is doing everything they can to help us locate Hannah.
Sydni also responded to the report to Hawaii News Nowby saying that the police chief “seems like it is [as if] she went off to do her own thing, which may keep people from looking for her.
Her sister, Sydni, responded to the claims, saying she exposed herself after the death of their father, Ryan Kobayashi (pictured)
Ryan searched for his missing daughter for almost two weeks before committing suicide
“I don’t want to bash the LAPD. “I don’t want to discredit them when they do what they do,” she said. “But right now we’re very confused about where they are.”
Sydni also said she continues to believe Hannah is in danger, noting that even if her sister had decided to go off-grid, she would have reached out after her father — who spent nearly two weeks searching for her — committed suicide committed.
“With my father’s passing, now that it was everywhere and in her right state of mind, she never thought about not reaching out to anyone,” Sydni said.
She had shared similar sentiments before with NewsNationwhile sharing her concerns with Cuomo’s guest host, Brian Entin, that Hannah may have been taken from California.
“Knowing her intuitively and being so close to her all my life, I just know that this is absolutely not suitable for her,” said the concerned sister.
She went on to say that she is convinced Hannah would not have run away and was “an amazing and beautiful person.”

The second was transferred less than an hour later to someone named Jonathan Taylor, also for an undisclosed amount, with the description only: “Reading.”
