Realme’s next flagship phone could break the 8,000mAh battery barrier – more than 2x the capacity of the iPhone 16

As smartphone owners, we all want longer battery life from our devices – and it looks like Realme could be raising the bar for flagship consumer phones with the introduction of a device with an 8,000mAh battery.
That’s what an experienced tipster says Digital chat station (via Notebook control), and it sounds like several capabilities are being considered for an upcoming phone – possibly the Realme GT 8 Pro that will launch sometime in 2025.
According to the leak, the phone could have a 7,000mAh, 7,500mAh or 8,000mAh battery. However, there is a trade-off: the higher the capacity, the lower the charging speed and the time it takes for the battery to fully charge.
Apparently no final decision has been made yet – but if Realme were to opt for the 8,000mAh option, we’d certainly welcome it. It would be a refreshing change to see a handset that doesn’t need to be charged every night.
Batteries in numbers
An 8,000mAh battery wouldn’t be the largest we’ve ever seen, as previous handsets have had batteries with a capacity of up to 22,000mAh. However, these phones are very thick and not as practical as regular smartphones.
If Realme chooses 8,000mAh for the capacity, it would be the largest yet in a consumer phone that doesn’t look like it has a power bank tacked on to it. A select number of handsets are currently offered approximately 7,000 mAh.
It would certainly beat the likes of the Apple iPhone 16 (3,561 mAh) and the Samsung Galaxy S24 (4,000 mAh) – although of course many factors influence battery life, including chipset efficiency, so it’s not just capacity of the battery .
Unfortunately, Realme doesn’t sell its phones in the US, UK or Australia, focusing instead on markets like China and India. Let’s hope this changes, or Realme’s advanced battery technology makes its way to other smartphone makers in the industry.
