Bake Off runner up Dylan Bachelet, 20, wows his bosses at Michelin star restaurant The Five Fields as they say they had ‘no idea how good’ the humble star actually was on the show
Dylan Bachelet, runner-up on the great British Bake Off, has impressed his new bosses at a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant with his humble and down-to-earth approach.
The pastry prodigy was a firm favorite to win this year’s competition but lost out to Welsh pediatric nurse Georgie Grasso after collapsing under pressure in the final challenges.
But fans of the show were relieved to discover yesterday that the 20-year-old had landed his dream job as a chef at trendy restaurant The Five Fields in the exclusive Chelsea area of west London.
Dylan started the job a few weeks ago after wrapping up filming for Bake Off and simply told his colleagues that he had taken part – without indicating how well he had done.
Restaurant manager Matthew told MailOnline: ‘We were very shocked. We had no idea when he signed up how well he had done. All he mentioned was that he was a Great British Bake Off contestant, he didn’t say how well he did.
“He started working here a few weeks ago and he’s kept his cards very close to his chest and none of us had any idea how far he’d gone.”

The manager added that he is “very charming” and that the restaurant was “overwhelmed” by the response to Dylan’s success.
The Five Fields is a cozy modern British restaurant with about ten tables that has been operating from the heart of Chelsea since 2013.
With ingredients sourced from their own farm in East Sussex, the menus change week on week depending on what seasonal produce is available.
The chic restaurant, with an extensive wine list, offers a set menu for £80 per person. Starters this week included oysters, scallops or lobster, while mains included duck, venison and cod. The guests were then offered a pear tart to finish, in addition to a crème fraîche ice cream.
A tasting menu for £170 per person is also available with 12 different dishes, which can be served with a wine pairing.
Over the past decade it has won numerous awards for its innovative approach, including Squaremeal’s Restaurant of the Year, four AA Rosettes and one Michelin star.
Bake Off viewers were relieved to hear Dylan had landed his dream job after a disastrous final episode.
After a near-perfect run on the show, including two Star Baker Awards, Dylan collapsed during the show’s grand finale on Tuesday night.

However, the pressure of the final proved too much for the former shop assistant, who delivered unimpressive scones and finished in last place in the technique.
Fans admitted they were watching the final episode from behind their hands as Dylan and the other finalists approached the final showstopper.
But that wasn’t meant for Dylan as he failed to impress with his ‘gravity-defying’ floating cake inspired by the Italian city of Murano, while delivering a ‘lumpy’ and ‘concertinaed’ sponge.

“Dylan has been really good at not letting on how well he’s done, so we’re all cheering for him on every episode. We couldn’t be more proud of his achievements!!
Delighted fans shared their thoughts on Dylan’s new job after his disappointing run in the final.’
They said: ‘Are you kidding that the BAKE OFF FINAL WAS SO FUN AND DYLAN WILL BECOME A MICHELIN STAR CHEFS?!! THANK YOU ALL’; ‘Bitterly disappointed that Dylan didn’t win, we think the pressure was too much for a 20 year old, but to read that he has a job in a Michelin star restaurant was the icing on the Bake Off cake’ ;
‘Dylan in a Michelin star restaurant? Who really won?’; ‘I was just catching up on Bake Off but they definitely didn’t give it to Georgie. Her last bake looked beautiful, but I was genuinely surprised that she even made it to the finals. Dylan was definitely my champion – such a shame he had a shock finale, he was great throughout’;
