Cher has had a busy month promoting her tell-all memoir Cher: The Memoir, Part One in New York before heading to London.
In her memoir, Cher explained what her marriage to the late Sonny Bono was like, revealing that he had “abused” her at times and at one point had “seriously considered” killing her.
She wrote that she felt trapped in the loveless marriage from 1969 to 1975, which in the 1970s produced their son Chaz Bono as well as their pop duo Sonny & Cher and their variety show of the same name.
The Moonstruck actress wrote that she was suicidal at times during the marriage and to make matters worse, Bono stole all her money.
“I could never get him to give me an answer that was real to me,” Cher told Stern. “I said, ‘At what point, what time of day or night, or what were you doing when you thought, I’m going to take Cher’s money?’
She added, “More than anything, he wanted to be Sonny & Cher. He loved those times.”
Stern expressed outrage and sometimes said he wanted to “strangle” him.
Cher shared one explanation Sonny gave her as to why he took her money. “His response was, ‘Because I know you would always leave me.'”
“But what kind of answer is that?” Stern said, once again expressing outrage on Cher’s behalf.

Cher also teased new music during a recent appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
At one point during the interview she was asked if there will be “another album” from the presenter.
Without giving anything away, the singer simply replied, “I’m going to do it.”
The star – who released her debut solo album All I Real Want to Do in 1965 – revealed she never thought she would still be working at her age.
She told me The Guardian: ‘I never thought about living so old and still having a job!’
Despite this, Cher has no plans to leave the music business anytime soon.
She said: ‘Barbra Streisand once asked me, “Why are you still working?” And I said, “Because one day I won’t be able to do that anymore.” So as long as I can work, I will.”
