The Windows 11 update includes a number of Ubisoft games

The latest Windows 11 update does not work properly with Ubisoft games Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Assassin’s Creed origins, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Star Wars OutlawsAnd Avatar: Borders of Pandora,Microsoft warned on November 22.

“After installing Windows 11, version 24H2, you may encounter issues with some Ubisoft games,” Microsoft said. “These games may become unresponsive during launch, loading, or during active gameplay. In some cases, users may see a black screen.”

Ubisoft has one hotfix tackling the Windows 11 bugs in Star Wars Outlaws on November 21 shortly after the forced stealth-focused update, but Microsoft added that there may still be performance issues. A compatibility hold has been placed on computers with these specific Ubisoft games installed until a permanent solution can be found.

“We recommend that you do not attempt to manually update to version 24H2 using the Windows 11 Installation Assistant or the media creation tool until this issue is resolved,” Microsoft said.

If you’re affected and can’t close your game normally, Microsoft suggested using the Task Manager to end the task via the Process tab. I can only assume that instructions are intended for Boomers and Zoomers, because what a self-respecting Millennial doesn’t do you know how to do yet?

Windows 11, version 24H2 was released on October 1. It is unclear which the many features of the update weren’t in line with Ubisoft’s games in particular, but knowing how picky computers can be, I’m going to randomly pick from the list and say it might have been… the “more streamlined File Explorer”, whatever that means.
