Chromebook hunters in the UK will also be able to take advantage of some heavy Black Friday discounts, like this HP Chromebook Plus 15, which is currently down to £279 (a saving of £170) at Currys.

‘Plus’ Chromebooks tend to be a bit more expensive, but they also meet a strict set of requirements that Google has set to provide the best possible ChromeOS laptop experience. These include a certain level of processing power – here provided by the Intel Core i3 chip – as well as minimum RAM and storage capacity requirements plus a mandatory Full HD webcam. All these features, combined in HP’s modest Chromebook chassis, make for a solid productivity laptop for any office worker or student.

In the Chromebook department, there are some super cheap ChromeOS laptops available right now thanks to Black Friday sales at a number of retailers.

First up is this HP Chromebook 15, which is currently less than half price at Best Buy thanks to a hefty $220 discount – an excellent deal for a laptop that was already good value for money.

Equipped with an Intel N200 CPU and 8 GB of RAM, it won’t run the latest games and amaze you with its graphics performance, but if you’re looking for a basic workhorse laptop for everyday tasks like answering emails and surfing the web , this is a solid choice. Thanks to ChromeOS’ low hardware requirements, you should have a smooth experience.

Then there are Chromebooks. These tend to be much cheaper than Windows 11 laptops and also boast impressively long battery life, making them especially ideal for students.

Chromebooks run Chrome OS instead of Windows 11, a lightweight operating system based on Google’s Chrome browser. Chrome OS has evolved over the years and there are many apps available for all kinds of tasks.

When I say Chrome OS is lightweight, I mean it’s designed for efficiency over power and features. This allows it to run on less powerful hardware than other operating systems. That’s why Chromebooks are often a lot cheaper than other laptops and the batteries last longer. The downside is that this means Chromebooks don’t have all the features you’d expect from traditional laptops, and many apps you can use in Windows 11 or macOS won’t work in Chrome OS, although there are usually alternatives. We’ve got a special guide to the best Black Friday Chromebook deals if you think it’s the best type of laptop for your needs.
