Kyle and Jackie O’s train wreck interview with music superstar as Intern Pete tells him he looks ‘old’ and drops the C-bomb
Kyle and Jackie O’s rogue producer has met his match as a music superstar James Blunt.
Peter ‘Intern Pete’ Deppeler conducted a truly disastrous interview this weekend with the iconic British singer, who is currently touring Australia with his album Back to Bedlam.
‘I always get on really well with James Blunt. He’s a very smart, witty guy,” Kyle said on air Monday while questioning Pete about his unsanctioned A-list encounter.
The KIIS FM radio worker’s tactics involve terrorizing international celebrities by conducting ‘ill-prepared’ interviews in the place of his bosses, with Dolly Parton And Chris Hemsworth among his notable victims.
However, Pete’s jokes backfired on him spectacularly when the You’re Beautiful singer, 50, had his number from his very first question.
“You were probably expecting Kyle and Jackie O tonight, but I was expecting a global superstar,” he said. “And you have one, but I don’t,” James fired back.

In the battle of wits, Kyle and Jackie O’s ‘Intern Pete’ was a sore loser
Intern Pete did his best to beat the singer at his own game by hurling quick insults at him during the interview, but they all went down like LED balloons.
“So 20 years of re-releasing music – fantastic. Do you think that’s lazy though?’ he asked.
“That’s the song everyone bought, so let’s milk it,” James replied unfazed.
“You look really old,” intern Pete lobbed back.
“You’re kidding me,” James replied bluntly, clearly irritated by his lack of imagination or intelligence.
It was a move Pete borrowed from his 2023 interview with 77-year-old Dolly Parton, who politely accepted the interview and said, “I’ll just have to drop dead on the spot, but I’ll keep going as long as I can.”
The radio producer was then forced to maneuver through the awkward silence that followed during his interview with James.
“Are you afraid your music is getting worse?” he asked.
James responded that this is why he is re-releasing his first album.
“Are you gaslighting me?” Pete asked him, which the singer said was just “nonsense.”

Pete scraped the bottom of his barrel to elicit a response and then asked if James knew if his name sounded exactly like the C-word, to which he said, “Well, that’s what my parents call me at home.”
The twenty million record selling artist immediately wondered why Intern Pete had taken his iPhone to film the interview, which was approved for The Kyle and Jackie O Show.
“I feel like they may have oversold me. I think he was expecting you guys,” Pete told Kyle and Jackie before they played the tapes.
‘He was definitely expecting us. I’ve heard of them,” Kyle said.
‘Is that okay? Because they gave me too much equipment,” Pete asked James after the singer questioned whether he was using his phone to record the interview.
“My cameraman got lost because he got drunk and ran into a damn Christmas tree. We are here now, this is what we have.”
James sounded irritated and said, “We’ll do it on an iPhone, you use one to do the video, and another iPhone to do the sound.
“I feel like the fact that we’re working on the iPhone means you’re not really invested in this interview,” he added.
Pete told the singer that he felt like “you’re coming down pretty hard on me because I have some really good questions.”

He then wondered why the two-time British award-winning artist thought people were writing such positive reviews of his Australian concerts.
“We’re giving away free drinks during the show,” James said cheerfully. ‘And because of that they have a lot of fun. They like the music when they can’t really hear it anymore and they write good reviews. So that is exactly the most important marketing element.’
Internal Pete upped his ante and tried to bring up the rumored feud between James and fellow British star Robbie Williams, who allegedly ‘stole’ his drummer.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, James revealed that the song he can’t listen to is Angels because “he stole my drummer.”
“And my lighting designer,” he told the publication. “Well, he just paid them more. Now we share drummers, so we’re in trouble: Robbie Williams, our drummer and me. The worst part is when it’s their turn and I just have to watch.’
The singer continued that thread in his Intern Pete interview, adding, “Plus, you’re also paying way too much for him because he’s just not worth that kind of money.”
“Wow, so this is the drummer you hired, but you think he’s no good?” Pete asked.
James burst out laughing.
“Well, I’ll pay him peanuts! Rob pays him a ton. He absolutely skins Rob for all he’s worth. But if Rob is a loser who is willing to pay him that amount, then go for your life.”
Pete then asked if it was true that Jame’s record label had asked him to stop firing out “comebacks” at his musical rivals on X, formerly Twitter.
‘They’ve given up. I write the tweets and show my manager a draft,” James said. “And if he shakes his head no, I hit send.”
Kyle doubled down on Pete on Monday, grilling his staffer on his “flame jokes” that “failed.”
“Do you know what you’re doing wrong?” Sydney’s ‘radio king’ said as he told it on air. “You imagine what they’re going to say back, but they never say it.
