Fan speculation goes into overdrive over Mary Fowler’s sudden leave of absence from the Matildas – with some sharing a HUGE conspiracy theory
A wild conspiracy theory about Australian sports power couple Mary Fowler and Nathan Cleary has hit social media following the Matildas star’s recent health announcement.
Fowler has ruled herself out of the Matildas’ upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Chinese Taipei to prioritize her mental and physical health.
The Australian forward has had a busy start to the new season, continuing to play for both Matildas and City, while also holidaying with friend Nathan Cleary in Britain and Europe.
She has made 13 appearances for her club this season in both the WSL and Women’s Champions League, having also recently traveled to play for the Matildas in their matches against Switzerland and Germany.
Fowler admitted that the ‘demanding’ start to the season was a ‘challenge’ and added that she wanted to take some time to recharge to perform at her best for both City and the Matildas.
“Playing for the national team is something I never take for granted,” Fowler said in a statement.

Some fans believe the Matildas superstar (pictured with Nathan Cleary) is pregnant
“It is an incredible honor to represent Australia every time I pull on the jersey. However, past experiences have made me realize that my mind and my body are also things that I should never take for granted either.
‘Over the past few months, playing an increasingly demanding schedule has been both exciting and sometimes challenging.
‘I love being able to play at the top level of my sport, but realizing that my body and mind sometimes need rest has been an invaluable lesson for me.
‘I have therefore decided to take this time to prioritize recovery, to refresh both mentally and physically so that I can continue to put my best self forward for both club and country.
“I really appreciate everyone’s support and understanding, and I hope to see you all soon.”
Australian sports fans have reacted warmly to the Matildas star’s health update, but conspiracy theorists are having a field day with more than a few speculating that Fowler is pregnant.
“What are the bets she’s pregnant,” one Facebook user commented.
“Preggers,” declared another.
“She’s confused,” a third replied.
Cleary, meanwhile, has been enjoying some downtime lately, following his romantic getaway to Europe with Fowler.
He joined Fowler when the Matildas traveled to Switzerland and Germany for two matches, and they were also seen in the stands of the English Super League grand final, where Nathan was interviewed on TV and questioned about rumors that he was going to the league could switch to get closer to the competition. his partner – or even skip to rugby union so he can be in Britain with her.

There are other signs that the couple’s relationship is anything but a long-distance relationship.
Last month, Nathan gave a telling answer when asked if he wanted to settle down and have a baby with Fowler.
Business guru Mark Bouris asked the star if he was thinking about setting himself up for life after football on his podcast after Cleary made a high-profile investment in a Sydney brewery with his UFC fighters Tai Tuivasa and Tyson Pedro.
“I’ve been thinking about it more, especially this year with injuries. I’ve had a lot of time to myself to think,” Cleary replied.
“You just think it’s going to take forever, and then you have a few injuries and you’re out of the game.
‘You do realize that this won’t last forever.
“I think this is the first year I’ve really thought about post-footy and what that looks like to me.
‘It was an interesting journey. It’s one I’m excited about.
Cleary and Fowler have been dating since late 2023 and can’t hide Australian sport’s worst-kept secret
“I know it’s a long way off, well I hope it’s still a long way off, but what I’m excited about is a new passion, something you can put your time and effort into. We’ll see when we get there.’
Bouris then started talking about the need to think ahead once Cleary hung up the boots, adding that his romance could change his long-term plans.
“Now that you have a girl you’re also interested in, you’re probably starting to have thoughts like, for one day, I have to keep the Cleary name alive,” Bouris said.
“Absolutely,” Cleary replied emphatically.
“Maybe only have one kid, just enjoy it,” Bouris said as they both laughed.
“It could be a football player,” Cleary laughed.
“That could be possible, why not?” replied Bouris.
“I’m telling you what would be good, if there’s a girl or a boy, it would be a good kicker. They could kick a ball.”
Cleary replied, “You’d like to think so.”
