Australian Jack Doohan, the son of legendary motorcycle racer Mick Doohan, will race for the Formula 1 team Alpine in 2025.
Doohan’s promotion was formally announced in August, but recently rumors in the paddock suggested he could be rejected for Williams star Franco Colapinto.
But Alpine has confirmed the 21-year-old Aussie will feature by announcing his number for next season.
“We look forward to seeing number 7 on the A525,” the team posted on social media.
Doohan spoke of his excitement about his rookie F1 campaign.
‘There, that’s it. Number 7 will be my racing number for 2025,” Doohan said in a social media post.

‘I’m super psychic. I really wanted to go with a number than I had raced before, something that had meaning to me.
‘I raced #7 in 2019 and also with one of my idols, a super special person and driver, Kimi Raikkonen, who also raced that number.
“I’m really looking forward to continuing with it and making it my own and getting some luck from #7.”
Doohan has been a reserve driver at Alpine for the past two years, after compatriot Piastri left the French team and joined McLaren.
“It’s an exciting moment, a proud day for my family, and I’m looking forward to soaking it all in and working hard behind the scenes,” Doohan said in a statement released by Alpine in August.
“I am very grateful for the trust and belief of the team’s senior management.

“There is so much work to be done and prepared and in the meantime I will do my best to absorb as much information and knowledge as possible to be ready for the step up.”
Doohan, whose father Mick is a five-time 500cc motorcycle world champion, had a successful career in Formula 3 and Formula 2 before becoming Alpine’s regular reserve driver and impressing team boss Oliver Oakes.
Doohan joins Pierre Gasly as Alpine drivers for the next F1 season, which starts at Albert Park from March 14 to 16.
The emerging Australian talent finished second in the 2021 F3 Championship and finished third in the F2 rankings last year, when he took six wins and five pole positions.
