Erling Haaland has called for calm and joked that people are acting as if Manchester City have been relegated after their four-match losing streak.
It is the first time in boss Pep Guardiola’s career that he has lost four games, but it appears there is no panic in the dressing room.
‘Yes, we lost four in a row. That is not normal at a club like this. It hurts, it obviously does,” Haaland said Air sports ahead of Saturday evening’s clash against Tottenham.
“And the motivation is greater than ever to go on Saturday and win the game and get back on the run.”
City’s recent failure leaves City five points behind leaders Liverpool 11 games into the season.
In that sense, the international breakthrough perhaps came at a good time for Haaland and Co to go away, reset and come back ready to track down their Merseyside rival.
Erling Haaland wants people to relax when it comes to Manchester City’s recent losing streak
Together with Pep Guardiola, the Man City striker believes their title experience will soon provide a definitive answer
“I think it was good for everyone to maybe go to their countries and national teams and restart a bit,” the Norwegian added.
‘We lost four times in a row, but how bad is that? It’s not that bad. It’s not like we’re relegated! We are still in second place, we still have plenty of games to go.”
City are on the winning streak of winning four Premier League titles in a row and even with their recent slump, losing to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, Bournemouth and Brighton in the Premier League, and away games against Sporting in the Champions League, there are still many believe they will cross the line to win a fifth straight championship.
“I think in the end it’s about experience,” Haaland continued.
‘If you win, you get more experience. But I think in the end you also have to stay calm, focus on what you can do something with. Should we talk about the games we lost? No, it’s not. It’s about trying to help the team win the next game. That’s my main focus.’
It’s no surprise that Haaland is back at the top of the scoring charts and on course for another Golden Boot, with 12 goals from his first 11 games this season.
