Woman airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in the chest on packed Sydney train as alleged knifeman is tasered by cops

A woman has been taken to hospital after being stabbed on a crowded train.

The woman, in her 30s, was stabbed in the chest at 1.30pm on Saturday while on a train heading to Armidale from Sydney.

NSW Police responded to reports of a woman being stabbed between Singleton and Muswellbrook.

The train stopped at Ravensworth and emergency services met the woman and her alleged attacker, a 35-year-old man, at the scene.

Police used a Taser and pepper spray to stun the man before arresting him.

The woman was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

Her alleged attacker is also in hospital and currently under police guard.

None of the 167 other passengers on board the service were injured during the incident.
