Sunny Hostin looks dejected as she is forced to read out awkward memo on The View just minutes after trashing Matt Gaetz

Co-host Sunny Hostin was forced to read a “legal note” after accusing Matt Gaetz of “child sex crimes” and “child trafficking.”

Donald Trump’s choice for top cop is alleged to have repeatedly partied, used drugs and paid women for sex while serving time in prison between 2017 and 2019 House of Representatives.

However, it appears Hostin may have gone too far when the panel discussed the investigation into the now ex-Florida congressman on Tuesday.

“Within the Department of Justice, you have the sex crimes unit, which I was a part of,” she said, highlighting her work for the Department of Justice in the 2000s.

She asked, “Child crimes and child trafficking. How can you nominate someone with allegations of child trafficking or human trafficking across state lines and having sex with a 17 year old?”

Within four minutes, however, co-host Whoopi Goldberg confronted Hostin and said, “Sunny, you have a legal note.”

The liberal former federal prosecutor turned stone-faced when presented with the prepared statement clarifying that the attorney general nominee denies the “false defamation.”

“Yes, Whoopi, thank you,” Hostin replied, before coolly reading a memo.

Sunny Hostin began accusing Matt Gaetz of “child sex crimes” and “child trafficking” before dejectedly reading a “legal note” clarifying that the attorney general nominee denies the allegations.

“Matt Gaetz has long denied all allegations, calling the claims, quote, “invented” and saying in a statement to ABC News that “after a three-year criminal investigation, this false smear should be viewed with great skepticism.” The DOJ investigation concluded without charges being filed.”

Goldberg then quickly sent the show to a commercial break with no further discussion on the matter.

Gaetz resigned from Congress just days before the House of Representatives was set to vote on whether to release a damning ethics report on the allegations against him.

Journalist Collin Rugg said Hostin was furious upon reading the note because she had presented the allegations as “fact.”

“Look at her face, she didn’t want to make that statement,” said another social media user.

‘Look at Sunny Hostin’s face. This looks like a hostage video,” the infamous “End Wokeness” account added.

Another wrote: ‘Literally what it looks like when you eat crow. As if it hurts her to tell the truth.’

Gaetz allegedly took two women to the musical version of Pretty Woman on Broadway after paying them to fly to New York City for sex and drug-filled romps.

Joel Leppard, a Florida-based attorney for the two women, also says they met Gaetz at least once to see him appear on Fox News’ Outnumbered in New York in January 2019.

This was one of ten to fifteen alleged occasions on which the women were flown to meet Gaetz, sometimes in New York or even the Bahamas.

Leppard says his clients were between 19 and 21 years old at the time, although they believed they had seen another 17-year-old woman with Gaetz. They said they were told to have sex with several gentlemen after they were hired.

“They testified to the House that that was their understanding of the payments, that that was why they were there, to have a good time, to have fun, to be free and to have sex with the gentlemen present, including Rep. Gaetz,” Leppard said.

Each of them told the House Ethics Committee that they had sex with Gaetz and were paid for sexual favors, he added.

According to Leppard, the Republican attended as many as ten “sex parties” where illegal drugs and “group sex situations” were present.

Both women represented by Leppard allege Gaetz paid them for sex through Venmo, the attorney alleges.

“She testified [that] In July 2017, during a house party, she walked to the pool, looked to her right and saw Representative Gaetz having sex with her girlfriend, who was 17,” Leppard said Monday.

One of the witnesses claims she saw her friends having sex with Gaetz at a party in July 2017 at a gaming table believed to be an air hockey table.

The unnamed witness also says her friend was 17 years old at the time.

When asked about the allegations against Gaetz, Trump transition spokesman Alex Pfieffer told DailyMail.com: “Matt Gaetz will be the next attorney general. He is the right man for the job and will put an end to the weaponization of our justice system.”

“These are baseless accusations designed to derail the second Trump administration,” he added. “Biden’s Justice Department investigated Gaetz for years and cleared him of wrongdoing.”

The allegations were at the center of a House of Representatives Ethics Committee investigation into the ex-lawmaker, which was abruptly halted last week following Gaetz’s resignation after being presented as the country’s “top cop.”

Gaetz was sworn in as a member of the House of Representatives in January 2017, so all of the allegations against him come during his tenure as a federal employee.

He claimed he had done nothing wrong and that the allegations against him amounted to a “false slander.”

Gaetz also said he had never engaged in sexual activity with anyone under the age of 18 in a letter posted to his social media in September.

“The answer to this question is an unequivocal NO,” he wrote. “The lawful, consensual sexual activity of adults is not the business of Congress.”

Gaetz has also said that the Ethics Commission’s actions appear to have unfairly targeted him, and he announced that he would no longer comply with their investigation.

“The answer to this question is an unequivocal NO,” he wrote. “The lawful, consensual sexual activity of adults is not the business of Congress.”

“This question about my sexual history reveals a sinister motive by the committee to harm me and those who have had any relationship with me,” he said at the time.

In June, the House of Representatives Ethics Committee released a statement saying its investigation focused on whether Gaetz “engaged in sexual misconduct and illegal drug use, accepted inappropriate gifts, granted special privileges and favors to individuals with with whom he had a personal relationship, and attempted to obstruct government investigations into his conduct.”

But Leppard claimed otherwise on Monday, saying the women he represents, who were also involved in the committee investigation, have Venmo transactions “for sex” that could prove the former lawmaker is not being truthful.

Leppard also revealed that Gaetz texted these women about whether there would be “party favors” and “vitamins” available at the parties, which the pair said were references to illegal drugs.
