Horrific photo shows mangled car after ‘drug smuggler’s speedboat’ came loose in Spanish road crash that killed two British golfers
This is the horrific aftermath of a fatal car crash that left two British golfers dead and a third seriously injured after their vehicles collided with a suspected drug trafficker’s speedboat coming off a trailer.
The trio were the first to hit the four-seater 9-metre long ‘narcolancha’ when it landed on the tarmac near the seaside resort of La Manga at around 9.30pm on Saturday evening.
Local media reported that the boat fell off while the car carrying it was traveling at 120 km/h.
A photo taken of the aftermath of the crash, on the RM-12, a dual carriageway popularly known as La Manga highway, near El Algar between La Manga and Cartagena, showed the right side of a gray car that was almost completely torn off.
Small pieces of metal and glass from car parts are scattered across the highway.
Behind the heavily damaged car is another with a bent hood.
Video footage taken at the scene of the accident showed a pile-up of several cars, with many vehicle parts scattered across the road.
At least one of the cars involved in the collision ended up upside down and another car suffered extensive front-end damage and a roof collapse.

The crash site is about 50 kilometers southeast of the city of Murcia.
Firefighters spent almost half an hour freeing the bodies of the two Britons who died from the mangled wreckage of their vehicle.
It is believed they were pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services realized there was nothing they could do to save them.
Local reports, pointing to the likelihood that they were holidaying in the area, said their trunk was filled with golf clubs.
Police confirmed the nationalities of the victims and said another eight people in six cars traveling behind them were injured in the massive crash.
The driver of the vehicle transporting the suspect vessel on a trailer fled and was still being pursued by police.
Local media reported that a series of supermarket receipts could be key in identifying the perpetrators.
They are believed to come from a well-known chain, which police use to trace purchases and identify perpetrators through CCTV analysis.
While the local press initially described the two people who died as two women and said this morning that they were ‘foreign tourists’, aged around 40, a Guardia Civil spokesperson later confirmed the couple’s nationality and said that both she and the seriously injured victim ‘were British men’. aged 47 to 54 years.’

“A semi-rigid boat carrying a trailer towing a vehicle came loose and ended up in both lanes of the road.
‘A car driving behind it, carrying three British men aged between 47 and 54, rammed the ship. Two of those people were killed and another, who was the driver, was seriously injured.
“Eight other people traveling in six vehicles behind them also crashed into the boat and were injured.
‘The driver of the vehicle that drove the speedboat onto the trailer fled the scene.
‘He has yet to be arrested. “The boat he was carrying, which ended up on the dual carriageway, has all the hallmarks of a so-called ‘narco lancha’ involved in drug trafficking and is under investigation.”
Local media reported that a seriously injured person, believed to be the British victim of the crash, was transferred Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital, while four others were taken to Santa Lucía Hospital in Cartagena to treat minor injuries.
It was also reported that the highway was closed for three hours after the accident, causing significant delays in the region.
A disaster management coordination center reported in the aftermath of the massive pile-up: “Traffic accident on RM-12 towards La Manga in the municipality of El Algar.
‘A collision has occurred involving several vehicles and has resulted in injuries.
“We recommend using alternate routes to ease access for emergency responders.”
Police have already said they will not formally name the British, although the deceased men have been identified locally by their initials only as PD, 49, and JW, 57, and the survivor as IP, aged 54.
An FCDO spokesperson said: ‘We are supporting the families of three British nationals following a road traffic incident in Spain and are in contact with local authorities.’
