Riders stuck in midair for over 2 hours on Knott’s Berry Farm ride
LOS ANGELES — More than two dozen riders were suspended for hours after a ride at Knott’s Berry Farm malfunctioned Monday afternoon.
Guests in Southern California theme park were stuck on the Sol Spin ride after technical problems caused it to shut down around 2 p.m., a park spokesperson said.
The 22 riders were evacuated at 4:30 p.m. according to the ride manufacturer’s emergency procedures and the park, the spokesperson said.
Two female guests were taken to a hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” the spokesperson said.
Aerial footage showed riders hanging in the air in all different directions, with some stumbling out of their seats after being lowered back to the ground. According to the Knott’s Berry Farm website, the Sol Spin takes riders more than six stories high on six independently rotating arms.
County fire officials said they were on standby at the park, but the rider’s rescue was handled by park personnel.
