Northern NSW council approves Hollywood superstar Zac Efron’s building plans for fully sustainable ‘hemp house’

Zac Efron’s dream to build his fully sustainable dream home is one step closer to realization.

A development application was submitted on behalf of the Iron Claw actor in August by Joost Bakker, environmental activist and friend of the star.

A former florist, Bakker is a well-known environmentalist and designer and often posts content related to sustainable living on his social media.

The proposal for the zero-waste house, dubbed ‘Futurecave’ in the DA, in the town of Tomewin, on the Northern Rivers of New South Wales, has been given the green light by Tweed Shire Council, The Daily Telegraph reported.

The 36-year-old High School Musical actor bought the bushland resort near Byron Bay in 2020 for $2 million.

The development application called for an off-the-grid ‘zero waste’ six-bedroom, two-storey flat on the 128-acre plot for $2.685 million.

Efron’s name was not on the application paperwork, but his name was still used as title holder to the property, the publication reported in August.

The distribution is in rugged bushland near Tomewin, 25 km inland from the famous beach holiday spot of Coolangatta and 75 km from Byron Bay.

The plans propose a sprawling home with a gym and a design known as ‘carbon sequestration’.

This is a process that helps reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

The ultra-modern home has been designed by Frank Burridge of Main Studio architects and will consist of ‘pods’ connected by a walkway.

The pods used in the construction provide 830 square meters of space for the house and are made of hemp cardboard panels.

Features include a ‘green roof’ for plant life. It will also provide a ‘sanctuary’ for butterflies and fireflies.

According to the report, Efron’s land is located in a rainforest area and has three creeks and waterfalls.

The Disaster Artist star bought the land while in Australia during the COVID lockdown.

It comes after Efron insisted he is ‘happy and healthy’ after being hospitalized in August after taking a dip in a pool while on holiday in Ibiza.

He took “a large amount of water into his lungs” after making contact with the bottom of the pool.

The leading man showed “signs of distress” and was “temporarily dazed” in the aftermath of the incident, sources told the newspaper, after which security officials rushed in to help him.

The Ibiza accident comes 11 years after a near-death experience in which the star slipped in a puddle of water while running around his house in socks.

He then hit his chin on a granite fountain, causing his chin bone to “hang off his face.”

Zac later told Entertainment Tonight that he almost died after the bizarre injury, explaining: ‘It was funny. It sucks. I almost died, but we’re doing fine.’

The movie star famously claimed that the accident caused his changing appearance, which has sparked a wave of speculation in recent years that he has undergone cosmetic surgery.

Zac has always denied having any plastic surgery. Instead, he has insisted that the masseter muscles on the inside of his face and jaw ‘compensated’ for his 2013 injury, which led to his altered form.

The High School Musical star even claimed that he didn’t know his transformation had gone viral on social media until his mother told him about the plastic surgery rumors.
