EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: Kate Moss reveals she still cries over naked cover shoot she did aged 15
Since being scouted at the age of 14 at a New York airport, Kate Moss has had an illustrious modeling career.
But despite her success, the fashion star from Croydon, South London, still harbors the emotional scars of being forced to pose nude in a cover shoot for The Face magazine in 1990 by the late photographer Corinne Day.
‘I still, even after that shoot, cried a lot because I took off my clothes with her [Day]” says Moss, 50. “I really didn’t want to do it.”
She explains, “At the time it was me, Corinne, Drew Jarett, the hairdresser, and Dick Page, the makeup artist. So I had Drew turn around because he was straight and I was like, ‘I’m not going to let him look at me.’ I was very shy.
‘I was fifteen and was topless in a magazine and still at school. Luckily The Face wasn’t sold in Croydon, so I don’t think anyone actually saw it, but heard about it.’

Lila Moss walks the runway at the 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Moss appears naked in the photo, protecting her modesty with her hands and a sun hat. In another photo, she is pictured topless wearing a feather headdress.
“At a very young age I started taking topless photos and I was very aware that I had a mole on my right breast and I hated it so much that it made me cry,” she says on her friend Bella Freud’s podcast , Fashion Neurosis .
‘I never wanted to be topless. I cried and I had to get over it because of the photographer [Day] would be like, ‘If you don’t do this, I’m not going to book you for the next job,’ so I had to get over it.”
Moss’ daughter Lila, 22, has followed in her footsteps as a model and signed with her own agency.
Although Moss’s shoot with Day, who died of a brain tumor in 2010, remains a “painful memory” for her, she admits that the fashion world has supported her through her difficult moments.
She is referring to the backlash she received in 2005 after the publication of photographs which, a newspaper claimed, showed her snorting drugs in a studio where her then-boyfriend Pete Doherty was performing.
Moss, who branded ‘Cocaine Kate’, lost her £1million contract with high street retailer H&M and booked herself into rehab.
“When I had a bit of a scandal, I got so much support from people in the fashion world,” she says. ‘[As] As soon as I was able to go back to work, everyone booked me. They said, ‘No, we’re not going to let you cancel.'”

St Paul’s VAT trick
What’s going on at St Paul’s, the exclusive London school where boarding fees are a whopping £47,000 a year?
I’m told that, in a show of agility befitting its stellar academic record, it turned the setback to its advantage by recovering £30 million in VAT from the taxpayer – a ploy made possible by the Budget, which abolished the tax on school fees. St Paul’s has been on a spending spree in recent years, spending £114 million on a redevelopment in the first phase of its ‘renewal campaign’. But when asked whether the school has now used up the full £150 million and can accordingly reclaim £30 million in VAT, the school remained silent.
Philip’s confidante meets the new duke
She wasn’t born into the aristocracy, but Countess Mountbatten of Burma has always displayed ‘old school’ stoicism, especially when her husband Norton Knatchbull left her in 2010 for the glamorous Genie McWeeney, widow of Baron Sir Nicholas Nuttall. He returned four years later. .
This week, Penny – as she is known to friends – welcomed the Duke of Edinburgh to Hampshire. Her bond with the previous duke, her carriage driver Prince Philip, was summed up as ‘a fierce friendship’ by Natascha McElhone, who portrays the countess in The Crown.

Craig Revel Horwood’s debut album
Strictly by popular demand? Craig Revel Horwood claims he recorded his debut album, Revelations: Songs Boys Don’t Sing, at the request of fans. “It was actually people asking me, ‘Do you have an album we can listen to?’ says the Strictly Come Dancing judge. “And I said, ‘Actually no.’ His only other shots are an 1980s ad for Kentucky Fried Chicken and one for Maclean’s toothpaste.
