Lizzo joins celebrity meltdown after Trump’s election win: ‘I hate the internet’
Lizzo is among a number of Hollywood stars, such as Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Lemon, who left X (formerly Twitter) after the election victory of newly elected President Donald Trump.
On Thursday, the 36-year-old Truth Hurts singer announced she was fleeing the social media platform, which has become increasingly toxic since Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of the company.
The four-time Grammy winner revealed on Instagram that she has created an account on Bluesky, another site similar to Twitter/X, which allows users to share posts and photos with their followers.
‘I hate the internet. Anyway, I joined Bluesky because we’re leaving toxicity behind in 2024,” she captioned a bathroom mirror selfie that showed her rocking a fluffy white robe.
Later in the day, the rapper (born Melissa Viviane Jefferson) took to her Instagram Story to call the move “the great migration.”
Since joining Bluesky, she has gained 2,400 followers. On Twitter, which she joined in 2011, Lizzo has more than 2.1 million followers.

The star has been very active on Bluesky in the first twelve hours, where she has already shared 38 messages.
In one message she asked: ‘Wait… are we having fun on the internet again?’
However, just seven minutes later, she admitted that she “obviously” needed to heal some wounds because she was “afraid to check the replies to” that last message.
‘Awww don’t let it get to you mom. There are plenty of us who love and support you!’ one fan replied.
Others called Bluesky a “safe space” compared to Twitter.
“Wishing healing to every refugee on this app,” another Bluesky user replied.
On November 7, two days after Trump secured his second term in the White House, Lizzo shared a message of love to her fans on her Instagram.
Her post shows her writing “Sending LOVE to everyone in the WORLD” on a sheet of white printer paper.

Lizzo had endorsed Vice President Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, during the 2024 presidential race.
After Harris was criticized for not doing enough during her vice presidency, Lizzo criticized the politician’s opponents in an impassioned Instagram video.
“To anyone who says Kamala Harris did nothing while she was vice president: for $5,000, please don’t use Google. Tell me what a vice president has ever done while in office that was remarkable,” she asked.
Lizzo continued, “Can we all just be real? Let’s all be honest and say our silent parts out loud because the discourse is tired.”
Last month, Lizzo even spoke at a rally for Harris in her hometown of Detroit.
However, the pop star was torn online for claiming that “the whole country will be like Detroit” if Harris wins the election.

Lizzo was excited that “being like Detroit” meant “being proud like Detroit” and “resilient like Detroit.”
The Good as Hell hitmaker’s comments offended many Americans, as Detroit’s unemployment rate is twice the national average and ranks as the second least safe city in the US.
Her statement was of crucial importance to X and provoked immediate reactions.
“That was a Trump endorsement if I ever had one. Lol,” one X user tweeted.
Another wrote, “Regardless of Lizzo’s strenuous efforts to keep it going, the one thing that will resonate in people’s subconscious is: ‘Kamala will turn America into an impoverished, dilapidated and unsafe Detroit.’

“If Kamala is elected, the whole country will look like Detroit. A decimated car industry. A top ten city in crime statistics,” said a third.
Even many social media users who claim to live in Detroit said they “DO NOT want the entire country to look like Detroit.”
Despite facing trolls, Lizzo continued to urge Americans to vote, reminding them to do so several times.
“If your vote didn’t matter, voter suppression wouldn’t exist. “If your vote didn’t matter, they wouldn’t stop young people from going to the polls,” she pointed out. “If your vote didn’t matter, our parents and grandparents wouldn’t have demonstrated – and fought – for our right to vote.”
