Tragedy as young rising football star Marco Angulo dies aged 22 following fatal car crash in Ecuador

Ecuador international Marco Angulo has died aged 22 after injuries sustained in a devastating car accident.
Angulo is the third person to die after the crash in the Ecuadorian capital Quito on October 7.
Independiente Juniors footballer Roberto Cabezas Simisterra and Victor Charcopa Nazareno had died last month.
Angulo was rushed to hospital and underwent surgery to relieve pressure in his head.
He also suffered a lung contusion, which required a chest tube.

Angulo won the league title and the Copa Sudamericana with former club Independiente del Valle
The footballer was in a car that crashed into a metal structure on Quito’s Ruminahui highway around 4:30 am.
Angulo played for Ecuadorian LDU Quito, the country’s reigning champions.
The midfielder was hired from FC Cincinnati in March.
LDU Quito paid an emotional tribute to the 22-year-old in a statement, confirming his death.
“It is with deep pain and sadness that we regret to announce the passing of our beloved player Marco Angulo,” the club said.
“We extend our sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.
“His departure is an irreparable loss that will leave an indelible mark on our hearts.”
Angulo represented the Ecuadorian national team twice during his career.
He made his debut for the national team in 2022 and made his last appearance in a 2-1 win over Australia last year.

“The Ecuadorian Football Association expresses its deepest regret for the death of Marco Angulo, former La Tri player, who with his talent and dedication defended the colors of our country at every opportunity he had,” a statement from the Ecuadorian Football Association said.
‘Marco was not only an excellent player, but also a great teammate.
“He leaves a deep ache in our hearts, especially for all of us who shared countless trips, training camps and matches with him.
‘We stand in solidarity with his family, teammates and loved ones and wish them strength in this difficult time. Rest in peace, Angulito.”
Angulo had started his career at Independiente del Valle, where he won the Ecuadorian league title, the Copa Sudamericana and Copa Ecuador.
He joined FC Cincinnati in January 2023 for a fee of £2.3 million.
