Lady Gaga’s Republican dad reveals how her Kamala Harris support affected them after Trump’s election win
Lady Gaga’s father Joe Germanotta opened up about the family tensions that arose when he voted for Trump, while his daughter Kamala publicly supported Harris, especially after Trump won in a landslide.
At the request of Fox News On Wednesday, if families divided by politics could now “heal” after the election, Germanotta responded: “I think so.”
“You know, since I came out as a Republican on FOX & Friends, things have been a little rough at home ever since, but we’ll get over it,” he added.
The New York restaurateur went on to describe himself as an “open-minded Republican” who often supports liberal-oriented social issues.
“People need to understand that even though I’m a Republican and I have a Republican conservative stance, it doesn’t mean I don’t support the LGBTQ community or support drag as a form of artistry,” he added.

Joe publicly endorsed Trump for president in September, while his Grammy-winning daughter appeared at a rally in support of Vice President Kamala Harris on the final day of the campaign.
Lady Gaga joined a high-profile group of artists, including Oprah Winfrey, Katy Perry, James Taylor and Ricky Martin, for a moving tribute in support of Harris.
In September, Germanotta said on Fox that he supported Trump because of the former president’s policies on the economy and immigration.
He said of Trump and the Democratic nominee, Vice President Kamala Harris, “They are two completely different people.”
“One is pure, you know, and he’s a patriot, right?” Germanotta said of Trump. ‘The other person is just going to say what she has to say to be chosen.’
Germanotta lamented that his restaurant, Joanne Trattoria, was on track for its best year yet when the COVID-19 pandemic hit.
“But the real basics: I don’t vote for people,” the pop star’s father explained. “Yeah, he’s abrasive, okay? But he’s a patriot and his policies are there, okay?’
Germanotta said he was a fan of “low fuel and food prices” and “low interest rates.”
He called the current border problems an “invasion” — echoing the language Trump uses to describe the influx of illegal immigrants.
“If you stack them next to each other, I don’t know what she’s talking about, okay?” said Germanotta. “She keeps talking about ‘opportunity zones,’” he said of Harris.
Since Harris took over the top of the Democratic ticket in late July, she has talked about creating an “opportunity economy” for all Americans.

She has received a number of high-profile endorsements from celebrities, including pop stars Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish, but has not yet received the help of Gaga on the campaign trail.
Four years ago, Lady Gaga helped Biden cross the threshold with some last-minute campaign events in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Germanotta opened Joanne Trattoria in 2012 after his daughter became famous, but told The New York Times at the time that he could have afforded to open it without the pop star’s help.
Yet the restaurant’s website references Lady Gaga – or Stefani – heavily. There is live music every Saturday and drag shows every Wednesday.
