Aussies unleash after making a shocking discovery in a supermarket freezer
Aussies have spoken out about the rising prices of ice cream, making the tradition of enjoying the treat on a hot day unaffordable for many.
An image shared on social media on Thursday captured an ice cream freezer in a supermarket filled with big-name brands, each with shockingly high price tags.
Choc-mint Drumsticks cost $6.59 each, while Maxibons range from $5.69 to $6.79.
‘Maybe I’m particularly poor, but my brain won’t allow me to buy a β¬6.50 ice cream. It seems so untenable,β one person said.
“I wouldn’t consider myself poor, but there’s a price I’m not willing to exceed for five bites of ice cream from a huge company that produces thousands of tons of the product every year,” a second added.
βI still remember the day my grandfather stopped smoking pipes because his tobacco cost more than $4 a bag,β a third person recalled.
Another shared their experiences from a recent trip to Japan.
In a photo of a supermarket ice cream section, many Australians have admitted they can’t afford to eat the summer dessert
Ice creams are a staple of the Australian summer, with many Australians’ childhoods involving trips in thongs and swimmers to the local shops to purchase the sweet treats
‘Their equivalent ice creams at 7/11 cost about 170 yen plus tax, which is about $1.83 AUD.
βIt really made me realize how badly we get ripped off in Australia with our groceries and convenience store items.β
Some Aussies said they could only afford larger tubs of ice cream, which typically offer a lower price per litre.
Others said they even took the time to make their own ice cream amid the cost of living.
