Anne Hathaway’s bizarre singing post urging fans to vote leaves the internet baffled
Stunned Anne Hathaway fans all said the same thing about the star’s bizarrely singing post on Election Day, urging the public to vote.
Hathaway, 42, who broadcast Somebody To Love at a Kamala Harris rally last month, started off with a rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s hit Please, Please, Please on Instagram on Tuesday – but spoofed the lyrics before the election.
The caption of the post read: “Wow…I hear there are super long lines at colleges and universities everywhere, but especially in Pennsylvania.
‘Please stay in line! Let them know where you are and they’ll try to get you some pizza and music – democracy needs to be fed (and needs a beat).
‘Most importantly, if you are in line before the polls close, stay in line, even after closing time. The polling stations will remain open until everyone in that line has voted! These are your rights! Thank you voters!

She then sang, “Please, please, please hold the line, please, please, please, especially at UPenn and Temple, just bide your time.”
‘Voting is magical, but also annoying. You’ve waited so long. Let’s make sure it doesn’t get boring. Please, please, please stay on the line.”
Fans quickly took to the comments section to call the star “cringeworthy” and “self-involved” over the video.
One wrote: “That was definitely one of the weirdest things I think I’ve ever had the displeasure of watching,” while a second typed: “This is cringe.”
A third wrote: ‘Too many videos of her being extremely rude and self-righteous in interviews. Gain some perspective on who you are and your real place in this world.. so insecure and pretentious’
Others wrote: ‘Another actress with a very inflated view of their opinion: ‘Poor Anna did all this for nothing’ after Trump’s victory and ‘Ugh shut up! You’re insufferable!’
Others praised the Oscar winner’s singing, saying, “THAT IS OUR QUEEN OF GENOVIA” and “You are such a queen because you use your voice and platform.”
The singing video brought back memories of 2020, when Gal Gadot and famous friends were labeled “out of reach” by social media users after joining forces while self-isolating to sing a version of John Lennon’s Imagine to be released online to share.

“I don’t know how millionaires singing about ‘no assets’ from their mansions is supposed to ease my anxiety,” one user wrote.
‘How inaccessible is this?’ one Twitter user wondered about the video montage, which features Natalie Portman, Amy Adams and Zoe Kravitz.
Asking the stars to put their money where their mouths were, someone else shared: “Cheesy and embarrassing, until they donate money, I [couldn’t] care less about this video.”
“I just watched the celeb Imagine video and now the coronavirus no longer scares me,” another joked.
“The video of celebrities singing Imagine to us from the comfort of their homes is exactly what Jenna Maroney would have done if there was a pandemic on 30 Rock,” someone else wrote, referring to the fictional sketch show diva played by Jane Krakowski.
‘This is so cursed, how did this even happen, do they have a GC? [group chat] and gal gadot was like hey, you know what would brighten anyone’s mood? An awkward rendition of Imagine,” someone else posted.
Many were disappointed with who they thought were their favorite celebrities.
“I saw some my my face celebrities singing in the gal gadot video,” one person tweeted with a reaction image of two people grinning.
Hathaway was recently part of a star-studded event called Broadway for Harris, including Whoopi Goudberg, Billy PorterRosie Perez and more.
She took the stage — after her performance at the premiere of The Apprentice — and insisted she was voting for Kamala Harris, adding that she was “going to make some room tonight” for the undecided voter (via Yep, show videos).
She wanted the undecided voter to “think about a question they might be struggling with,” before singing the first line of the 1976 hit: “Can anyone find me / Someone to love?”

The actress took to the stage in a glittering black blazer/skirt with thigh-high black boots on stage.
Towards the end of the performance, she made a short, impassioned plea for everyone to vote on November 5.
‘America, the day we should be free is November 5th. We have a big choice to make, America, and you have to make a choice, you have to vote,” she said to applause.
“And maybe in this election… maybe you’ll be the one you love. You need to vote for yourself, America,” Hathaway said.
She finished the song to loud applause from the audience, kissed the audience and started a Kamala chant before leaving the stage.
The actress was just 21 when she first sang the song on screen, in a scene from Ella Enchanted.
Ella – enchanted to obey every command – is asked to sing, which she does sheepishly at first before launching into a rousing performance in the film.
The jukebox musical – released two years before her breakthrough in 2006’s The Devil Wears Prada – grossed just $27.4 million at the box office on a $31 million budget.
The appearance comes on the heels of Hathaway signing on to reprise two of her previous roles in recent months.
