7-Eleven is offering free Slurpees for 7-11 Day – but fans are furious with two huge new catches
7-Eleven stores across Australia are handing out free Slurpees and coffee to celebrate 7-11 Day, but two new rules are causing die-hard fans to forego the fun.
7-11 Day used to be a big day in Australian culture, with the retailer filling containers of all sizes with the iconic Slurpee mixture for free.
Customers flocked to the stores with the largest, most creative vessels to carry the frozen beverage.
Now the retailer simply offers a large Slurpee or regular coffee.
Those looking for a free drink were further disappointed as only paying customers could claim the free drink.
In addition, people who purchase tobacco or tobacco-related products in the store are not eligible for the free drink.
Fiona Hayes CEO and Managing Director of 7-Eleven Australia said 7-11 Day gives the retailer the opportunity to thank loyal customers.
“We hope to give away more than 200,000 slurpees and coffees today as part of celebrations across Australia,” she said.

Customers who have signed up for the loyalty program can also be entered into a drawing for 7-Eleven merchandise as part of the celebration.
The merchandise is sourced from the US market and is not available in Australia. It includes a custom golf bag, a knitted polo, a tracksuit and a cap.
“We are excited to offer unique merchandise that celebrates our brand with our loyal customers,” said Fiona.
Skeptical customers flooded 7-Eleven’s social media feeds after the announcement about the popular day.
‘What’s the catch? Should you spend $100 at the pump?” one person wondered.
“Free Slurpee was exciting in the days when you could get sugary flavors that weren’t just Coke and Raspberry,” said another.
“Coffee is $2, chips are $5, not much of a celebration,” said another.
“Every purchase IS BULLLLLLL,” said another fan.
“First they took away our freedom of ship, now they make us pay for our freebies by saying we have to make a purchase. Record profits, tough,” another added.
740 stores across Australia are participating in this day.
