The Project viewers upset over shock format change to the show to coincide with the US election

Upset Channel Ten viewers have expressed their frustration over the long-running panel show’s shocking format change.

Angry viewers took to the Media Spy Forums to express their dissatisfaction with the program airing a special episode with a US election theme on Wednesday evening, making it more difficult to record.

“Tonight on The Project they said the show starts at 6 p.m [on Wednesday] and lasts 90 minutes,” one upset viewer wrote.

“The program guide shows it as America Decides: The Project. Kind of sucks that they renamed it because now it doesn’t show up in the series link in the guide in my Fetch box.

‘There was no recording as usual. I had to select it as a new recording so it will be recorded tomorrow.’

The special 90-minute edition of The Project is half an hour longer than usual and the presenters will provide in-depth and tongue-in-cheek analysis of the US elections to coincide with the broadcast.

Meanwhile, other viewers also shared their thoughts on the one-time format change.

“It’s a shame,” one fan snapped and another person asked if the longer format would affect other programmes, with one confirming that Deal or no Deal would not be broadcast that evening.

During Tuesday night’s episode, former co-host Waleed Aly stunned fellow panelists by predicting that Democratic candidate Kamala Harris will defeat Republican Donald Trump to become the next U.S. president.

The Gold Logie-winning presenter, who is in the US capital Washington DC to cover the presidential race, made the surprising claim on the programme.

He was put on the spot by fellow panelist Kate Langbroek, who asked him who would get the keys to the White House.

“There’s no point in having you unless you give us a name. Who’s going to win?’ Langbroek asked.

Without hesitation, Aly replied, “Kamala Harris. There is a name.’

Langbroek appeared shocked as fellow co-hosts Hamish Macdonald, Sarah Harris and comedian Sam Taunton gasped.

Aly further explained his prediction, despite polls still saying it’s too close to predict: “My theory is that Trump has fewer ways to win. Kamala has a little more room for error with the people she’s targeting and who that might be.”
